Former flat jockey Jason Weaver tips his son, Tyler, to impress as the amateur golfer prepares for his first Major at the US Open.

Twenty-two-year-old Tyler has qualified for the tournament at Oakmont, Pennsylvania.

Weaver beat out past major winners Jason Dufner and Zach Johnson to earn one of 47 qualifying spots.

Known as the ‘longest day in golf’, the US Open qualifying tournaments take place across 10 venues in the US and Canada.

Hopefuls play 36 holes, with Weaver tying for third at the qualifier in Atlanta, Georgia.

And with Tyler Weaver set to play in his first Major, his father has been speaking about how proud he is.

While Tyler Weaver has qualified for the US Open, he’s not the first in his family to forge a successful sporting career.

Tyler’s father is former champion flat jockey Jason Weaver.

Weaver Sr rode more than 1,000 winners in a 14-year career. He has since moved into punditry and regularly appears on both ITV and Sky’s racing coverage.

Discussing his son’s success in qualifying for the US Open, he told ITV of his immense pride.

“I am proud of the amount of work he has put in. He got a scholarship to Florida State University – the Seminoles,” Weaver said.

“And he’s had Luke Clanton – Johnny [Murtagh] will tell you when you are racing against the best, you have to raise your game.

“He’s had a Luke Clanton to aim at, who has been World No. 1 amateur for a very long time in the squad.

“The coach and all have done a wonderful job, but he’s worked hard, he’s worked really hard.”

Tyler Weaver To Be Caddied By His Brother At The US Open vc62

Suffolk native Tyler will have a familiar face alongside him as he lines up at the first tee at Oakmont next week.

Elder bother Max will be caddying for him at the US Open.

Twenty-two-year-old Max was quickly recruited to carry Tyler’s clubs, via the family WhatsApp group.

Max told BBC Radio Suffolk: “He said ‘I hope you don’t mind but I think you’re going to have to carry my clubs around Oakmont’, and I said ‘I think that will work with my schedule, mate.

“I’ve had quite a bit of caddying experience, I caddied for a couple of friends in some big tournaments – the only thing I’ve got to is that he hits the ball slightly further than me so the yardages change a little bit.”

Tyler Weaver will be caddied by his brother Max at the Us Open.

While Max will be carrying the clubs at Oakmont, he too is a budding young golfer.

Both brothers have represented the Suffolk country team together, and Max won the 2023 Welsh Amateur Championship in Newport.

“We always said that if one of us gets a big opportunity, the other one would definitely help them. It’s going to be awesome that I can be there with him and see what we can produce as a team,” Max added.

The brothers started playing golf at a young age, using plastic clubs in the garden together as children.

“There’s no-one I know who hates losing more than him. Everything he does is about winning and I do think he can take it to the top in this game – but on the flip side of that, I need to hunt him down.”

When Is The US Open Golf 2025? 2c6x6o

This year will mark the 125th edition of the US Open.

As a result, U.S. Open Oakmont Country Club tickets are particularly difficult to get hold of in 2025.

The flagship American golf tournament gets underway on Thursday,  12 June and will run until Sunday, 15 June.

In the UK, Sky Sports are the exclusive live TV broadcasters of the US Open.

But those without access to Sky can also follow the action from Oakmont via the US Open website.
