Vardy — The Greatest in Leicester City History
On July 1, 2012, Leicester City signed Jamie Vardy for a then-record £1m transfer fee from then-Non-League side Fleetwood Town. Sure, Vardy was scoring for fun, but even the man himself saw it as too big a jump.
In an interview with Sky Sports ahead of his final home game for Leicester, Vardy said:
“Was the jump too big? I always believed in myself for scoring goals and stuff, but it doesn’t matter who you are, you get to a certain point, and that’s probably your limit, the top of where you can get to.
“So there were doubts coming in, thinking maybe I’d jumped too far.”

Of course, he did not let the pressure get to his head and scored an irable four goals and provided four assists in his debut campaign in the Championship. From the following season, he truly came on his own — scored 16 goals and claimed 10 assists in 37 games, winning the Championship — and has not looked back since.
In the 2015-16 campaign, he emerged as a force to be reckoned with as they beat the odds to win the Premier League. Between August and November 2015, he scored in a record-setting 11 consecutive Premier League games and deservedly won the Player of the Season award.
Vardy narrowly missed out on the Golden Boot in 2015-16, but he inevitably came back for it. Scoring 23 times in the English top-flight, he snatched the top scorer award that season.
Vardy Hopes to Continue Playing at the Highest Level
Many would consider Jamie Vardy’s Premier League career to be over, but the 38-year-old striker is hopeful about pushing on.
When asked if he had doubts about his ability to perform at the highest level, Vardy replied (via Sky Sports):
“No, but that’s just me.
“Football is a crazy world. You never know what’s going to happen. I’ll keep going until my legs tell me I need to stop. My legs are fine.”
