Jamie Carragher believes that Manchester City are almost in a ‘mini-crisis’ after their 2-0 defeat to Liverpool on Sunday extended their winless run across all competitions to seven straight matches.

Manchester City fell to a fourth straight defeat in the Premier League on Sunday, losing 2-0 to title rivals Liverpool, and former England defender Jamie Carragher believes that the club is in a ‘mini-crisis’ following the result.

Winless in seven, City’s poor run started at the end of October with a 2-1 defeat to Tottenham in the Carabao Cup, and they have since lost to the likes of Bournemouth, Sporting and Brighton, as well as Spurs for a second time.

The second loss to Spurs was particularly damaging, a 4-0 league defeat at the Etihad, and they followed that up by throwing away a three-goal lead to draw 3-3 with Feyenoord in the Champions League, a result that leaves them in 17th place in the league phase table after five matches.

In the league, meanwhile, they are a whopping 11 points adrift of the league-leading Reds following Sunday’s result and are currently outside of the top four in fifth place, level on points with fourth place Brighton.

Jamie Carragher: Manchester City Almost In ‘Mini-Crisis’

Speaking to Sky Sports following his former side’s victory at Anfield, Carragher said: “I don’t think there’s any way back for Manchester City now,” in reference to the title race.

He continued: “Right now I could see Man City losing another four or five games between now and the end of the season.

“I think it’s almost a mini-crisis at Manchester City. I think it’s reminiscent of Liverpool two years ago, and I think City might have a fight on their hands for top four.”

The Cityzens return to league action on Wednesday against sixth place Nottingham Forest.

Despite their poor form as of late, the UK’s best football betting sites have the reigning champions as clear favourites to prevail in that one, as they bid to put an end to their seven-game winless run across all competitions.

Bookmakers also have City as third favourites to finish the season in the top four, behind Liverpool and Arsenal.
