Although Slot’s comments went down well at the time, Carragher believes they were a tactical move designed to encourage Postecoglou’s attacking mindset, leaving Spurs vulnerable.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Carragher suggested Slot’s glowing remarks were a strategic masterstroke, setting Spurs up for failure.

“That press conference on Friday from Arne Slot was hilarious,” Carragher said. “People thought he was defending Ange—I don’t believe that for one minute.

“Slot was desperate for Tottenham to play the same way as they played Man United, and they did. Liverpool could have scored 10.”

Carragher argued that Postecoglou’s refusal to adapt played into Liverpool’s hands, allowing them to exploit Tottenham’s high-risk approach with ease.
