This Saturday’s Irish 2000 runners will focus around Field Of Gold, who was a fast-finishing second in the English version at Newmarket – with many predicting the Gosden horse can make amends at the Curragh.

He tops the market ahead of the big Group one – but you can see which horses might take him on, the latest betting and also the key Irish 2000 Guineas trends.

Irish 2000 Guineas Runners Headed By Newmarket Runner-up Field Of Gold

Field Of Gold’s run in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket, when second, has been subject of plenty of airtime – and ultimately resulted in jockey Kieran Shoemark losing his job as top rider with the Gosden camp.

The Kingman colt was a fast-finishing second in the opening English Classic of the season – beaten just 1/2 a length to Ruling Court (watch below) – and the best horse racing betting sites in the UK feel that this talented grey can bounce back at the Curragh.

With many feeling that Shoemark was too confident on the horse that day at Newmarket and let the eventual winner Ruling Court get first run.

He’s topping the Irish 2000 Guineas runners for Saturday’s big race and will be looking to follow in the footsteps as last year’s winner Rosallion, who was also runner-up in the English 2000 Guineas before taking the Curragh race.

Juddmonte, who own Field Of Gold, could also run Cosmic Year – who is unbeaten from his opening three starts and being another Kingman colt is a half-brother to Field Of Gold.

We know now there will be a maximum of 12 Irish 2000 Guineas runners (see below).

Who Will Ride Field OF Gold In The Irish 2000 Guineas?

After the Kieran Shoemark sacking, the Field Of Gold ride for the Irish 2000 Guineas is up for grabs.

Having won for the yard on Lead Artist in the Lockinge Stakes at Newbury, many felt Oisin Murphy would be asked.

However, it’s now been confirmed that top Irish jockey Colin Keane, who rode Juddmonte’s Babouche to victory at Naas last Sunday, will get the job of steering Field Of Gold at the Curragh on Saturday.

Colin Keane rode the Irish 2000 Guineas winner in 2020 with another Juddmonte horse – Siskin.

The final Irish 2000 Guineas runners will be out on Thursday 22nd May.

Has Trainer 2000 Guineas John Gosden Won The Irish 2000 Guineas?

Yes – but only once.

The sole Irish 2000 Guineas win for trainer John Gosden came in 2014.

However, the good news for his followers is this only win in the Curragh race came with KINGMAN, who is also the sire to his red-hot Irish 2000 Guineas runner Field Of Gold.

The race has been a solid one for the British trainers though. Last year (2024) the Richard Hannon team landed the spoils with Rosallion and in 2022 the Charlie Appleby yard walked away with the prize with Notable Speech.
