Elanga Stars As Forest Prevail at Portman Road
Premier League strugglers Ipswich welcomed high-flying Nottingham Forest to Portman Road for their Gameweek 29 fixture on Saturday afternoon, where the Tractor Boys were looking to secure their first league win of the calendar year.
It would have to take something special to overcome Forest though, as they headed into the gameweek occupying third place in the English top-flight table and were fresh off the back of a 1-0 win over reigning champions Manchester City.
Ipswich did well in the early stages to keep the Reds at bay and keep their clean sheet in-tact, however once Nikola Milenkovic poked home the opener after a corner in the 35th minute, it all fell apart for the hosts.
Sweden international winger Anthony Elanga quickly doubled the visitors’ lead just two minutes after the first, curling his effort beyond Alex Palmer after a lovely run down the right, before adding his side’s third four minutes later.
The Tractor Boys fought back in the second period, reducing the deficit through Jens Cajuste on the 82-minute mark, but Forest substitute Jota Silva quickly reinstated the three-goal lead with a cool first-time finish on 87 minutes.
George Hirst provided a consolation goal for Kieran McKenna’s side deep into injury time, heading home from Dara O’Shea’s cross, but the damage had already been done, with the three points heading back to the East Midlands.
Following the full-time whistle, the UK’s best football betting sites heavily favour Ipswich to suffer immediate relegation back down to the Championship at around 1/25. Forest, meanwhile, are the third favourites for the title at 150/1.
