Enzo Maresca has done decently for himself in his debut season at Stamford Bridge. Under his tutelage, Chelsea have amassed 63 points from 36 games, climbing into fifth place in the rankings. They are currently occupying the fifth UCL spot Premier League has secured for the next season, but Aston Villa, who have also secured 63 points, are breathing down their neck.

With only two games remaining, the Blues simply cannot afford a slip-up, knowing it could compromise their Champions League participation.

Manchester United

Unlike Chelsea, Manchester United have no chance of securing European football for next season, not through the traditional Premier League route, at least. Ruben Amorim’s side are toiling in 16th place in the English top-flight standings after 36 outings, having amassed just 39 points so far.

They are luckily in the final of the UEFA Europa League, where they will face Ange Postecoglou’s equally disappointing Tottenham Hotspur. Since they are safe from relegation, there is no real stake for the Red Devils heading into Friday’s fixture.

Enzo Maresca will be without Nicolas Jackson, who is suspended, and loanee Jadon Sancho, who cannot face his parent club. Christopher Nkunku (undisclosed), Aaron Anselmino (thigh), Marc Guiu (thigh), Omari Kellyman (hamstring), and Wesley Fofana (thigh) are all injured, while Mykhailo Mudryk remains suspended due to alleged doping. Reece James missed training on Tuesday, but he should be fit for the Friday-night clash.

Potential XI (4-5-1): Sanchez; James, Chalobah, Colwill, Cucurella; Caicedo, Fernandez, Madueke, Palmer, George; Neto

Man Utd

Ruben Amorim, meanwhile, will have to make do without Diogo Dalot (calf), Matthijs de Ligt (knee), Lisandro Martinez (ACL), Ayden Heaven (leg), and Joshua Zirkzee (thigh). Leny Yoro, who is nursing his ankle, could also sit this one out. Additionally, with the mid-week Europa League bout coming up, the Portuguese coach could opt to rest some of his key players.
