Gary Lineker has thrown a surprise name into the mix for the next Manchester United manager following Erik ten Hag’s sacking.

Gary Lineker Throws Lee Carsley Into Next Manchester United Manager Mix

Shortly after news broke of Ten Hag’s sacking, Gary Lineker, Micah Richards, and Alan Shearer went live on YouTube for an emergency episode of The Rest is Football podcast.

Whilst discussing potential managerial candidates, Lineker said, “I’m gonna throw in a name here – I think it’ll be very interesting, he’s clearly a brilliant coach – a certain Lee Carsley, who they probably won’t think about.

“But he’s an imaginative coach, he plays really attacking football. The players, from what I heard, at England thought he was really good and really interesting and thoughtful on the game.

“One thing he struggled with a little bit, I suppose, is the media side of things, but I think that’s easy to learn quite quickly. I don’t suppose they’ll go for him because I think they’ll stick with [Ruud] van Nistelrooy if he does well at the start, which is often the case.

“But there are not many big names out there available at the moment, in of your elite proven year-in-year-out managers.”

Micah Richards Suggests Manchester United Appoint Thomas Frank

Former Thomas Frank, to which Lineker agreed, saying he has a very good chance of getting the job if it doesn’t work out for Van Nistelrooy.

Richards said, “I’m gonna throw a name into the hat – and Brentford fans don’t hate me – Thomas Frank.

“We worked with him in the summer and his ideas, his creativity, his fluidity in of adapting different formations within the game, his set-pieces are strong. He’s great with the media, and he’s shown what he can do with the likes of Brentford, who don’t have massive budgets. He really gets the best out of his players as well.

“So yeah I could see someone like Thomas Frank going in there, shaking up things, and actually making the place very exciting.”
