Ngannou Discusses Future Plans After Making MMA Return
UFC heavyweight champion dominated Renan Ferreira, securing a vicious ground-and-pound knockout victory.
Ngannou’s journey since leaving the UFC has been tumultuous, marked by a knee injury, the loss of his UFC title, a failed boxing venture, and the tragic loss of his son. Despite these setbacks, the Cameroonian fighter remains determined and focused.
In an interview with Ariel Helwani, Ngannou opened up about his emotional state leading up to the fight.
“It wasn’t about doubts, more so about me questioning myself,” he said. “At the end of the day, the fight is a fight, and it can always go either way.
“I know I was prepared enough in case I have the opportunity. But again, you don’t; you never know what truly will happen in the fight.”
The victory over Ferreira not only marked Ngannou’s return to MMA but also his return to Saudi Arabia, where his fighting career has flourished since leaving the UFC.
The fight was a testament to his skills, as he effortlessly transitioned from striking to grappling, dominating Ferreira on the ground.
Looking ahead, Ngannou expressed a desire to continue fighting, both in MMA and boxing.
“It takes two to tango,” he said, referring to his potential boxing matches. “I don’t know yet. I don’t have a hand on that one. I don’t have a decision. I think it also depends on the promotion.”
Ngannou Says There’s A Chance He Could Fight Jon Jones
The possibility of a superfight against Jon Jones, a longtime rival, looms large. While the UFC has been resistant to the idea, Ngannou believes that a cross-promotion event could make it happen.
“There’s a chance,” he said. “I can’t tell on the level of one to 10, I can’t tell how many, but I know there’s a chance. I mean, basically, I know that fight also interests Turki [Alalshikh], and not many things interest him.”
As Ngannou continues his journey, one thing is certain: his legacy as one of the greatest heavyweights of all time is secure. With each victory, he solidifies his position and sets the stage for even greater accomplishments.
