Floyd Mayweather Sr has itted that his son should not have an unbeaten record and claims ‘Money’ Mayweather lost to Osca De Le Hoya.

Floyd Mayweather Sr Claims Son Should Not Have 50-0 Record

Floyd Mayweather Jr is regarded as one of the best boxers to ever lace a pair of gloves, after winning every time he stepped into the ring.

Beating the likes of Canelo Alvarez and Manny Pacquiao, ‘Money’ Mayweather has one of the most powerful names in boxing.

For a long time, his father was in the corner for each fight but Mayweather Sr is also known for his time as Oscar De La Hoya’s coach.

The iconic coach was on De La Hoya’s team when the Mexican-born fighter won titles at super welterweight and middleweight – but left his post as coach when De Le Hoya took on Mayweather Jr in 2007.

Mayweather Sr did offer to help De La Hoya train for the fight but only for $2 million and after consideration, Oscar would decide against the idea and chose Freddie Roach instead.

The two would have a war in the ring, with many calling it Mayweather’s closest battle and the unbeaten star would go on to win on points.

Two judges had the match at 115-113 in favour of Mayweather, while the third judge believed De La Hoya won 115-113.

In a surprising realisation, Mayweather Sr claims that his son should not have been given the victory in that fight and De La Hoya should have been the one to take Mayweather Jr’s perfect record away.

He said: “If you want to call fights by scoring, points system, who’s throwing more punches, you had to give it to Oscar. If you’re just going on a guy hitting a guy with single shots, you have to give it to my son.

“My son had good defence, he caught a lot of punches with his shoulder and his arm, but it’s still about a guy throwing punches.

“If he touches you, he’s scoring. I thought the fight was a close fight, it’s just where the point system goes. If you look at the point system, who’s touching who the most . You’re gonna have to give it to Oscar if you’re going by the point system.”
