Liverpool boss Arne Slot has provided a concerning injury update on Federico Chiesa, revealing that the Italian winger is still struggling with persistent niggles.

Chiesa ed Liverpool from Juventus in a bargain £11 million deal this summer and made a promising start, featuring in the Bournemouth and providing an assist in the Carabao Cup victory over West Ham.

However, his involvement has been limited since then due to ongoing injury issues. So when will Chiesa be back? His manager has provided an injury update.

When Is Chiesa Back For Liverpool?

Speaking ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League clash with RB Leipzig, Slot explained that Chiesa’s absence is primarily due to his missed pre-season.

“He missed a complete pre-season, and going to a league where the intensity might even be higher than the Italian league, it makes it difficult for him to make the step towards the intensity levels the rest of the team is at at the moment,” Slot said.

“That has not so much to do with the Italian league or the Premier League, that has more to do with him missing a complete pre-season, and that is so difficult for every player – when the games are constantly there – to build them up towards the levels we are at.

“So, difficult to say, but it’s a big disappointment for him that he is going in and out of the training sessions all the time. I feel sorry for him.”

Chiesa’s fitness problems have also affected his international career. He has not represented Italy since their exit from the European Championship in June and has been left out of the national team squad for the last four Nations League matches.

Liverpool fans will be eager to see Chiesa back to full fitness and in action for the club. However, the Italian winger is unlikely to feature in the games against RB Leipzig and Arsenal.
