The second major of 2025, the US PGA Championship, gets underway at the legendary Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Thursday, May 15. Before the four-day extravaganza gets underway, SportsCasting takes a look at the favourites for the US showpiece.

The 2025 US PGA Championship will see 156 golfers take to the course, including 29 major champions and 14 past PGA winners. It will take a herculean effort to stand out in this star-studded field, but we reckon the six men below have a great shot at doing so.

#6 Jon Rahm

Jon Rahm is one of the big US PGA Championship fancies

The Masters and U.S. Open champion is eyeing the third major title of his career this week. Limited by a foot injury, Rahm could not make the cut at the 2024 PGA Championship in Valhalla. After fully recovering, he collected T7 at the Royal Troon 2024, earning a whopping $451,834.

The Spaniard is excellent under pressure and is always a contender for majors.

PGA Championship Odds: 20/1

#5 Xander Schauffele

Xander Schauffele Won the US PGA Championship n 2024

American Pro golfer Xander Schauffele has bagged multiple top-10 finishes across all four majors. He has also proven his mettle in the Olympics, winning gold in Tokyo.

His career highlight, however, came last year at Valhalla, as he delivered a record-breaking performance to win the 2024 US PGA Championship. He was in control throughout the high-stakes clash and ultimately beat Bryson DeChambeau by a solitary stroke. His score of 21-under-par tied the lowest score in the history of major championships.

PGA Championship Odds: 18/1

#4 Justin Thomas

Justin Thomas Is a Favourite for the 2025 PGA Championship

Two-time US PGA Championship winner (2017, 2022), Justin Thomas, is one of the finest American golfers of his generation. His sharp iron game, ability to thrive under pressure, and, of course, his PGA Championship win at Quail Hollow in 2017, make him a favourite to go all the way this May.

After an inconsistent couple of years, Thomas has returned to his best in 2025, already securing three top-10 finishes on the PGA Tour. He was also a member of the U.S. Presidents’ Cup team.

PGA Championship Odds: 16/1

#3 Bryson DeChambeau

Bryson DeChambeau Won LIV Golf

Bryson DeChambeau lost the 2024 US PGA Championship to a brilliant Xander Schauffele birdie on the 72nd hole. After the heartbreak, “The Scientist” would be even more eager to go the distance.

He has been in fine form in 2025, clinching a LIV Golf win earlier this year and securing a T6 finish at the 2025 Masters. The 2020 U.S. Open winner knows what it takes to win a major, and it will be foolish to count him out.

PGA Championship Odds: 8/1

#2 Scottie Scheffler

Scottie Scheffler Has Been in Top Form This Season

One of the two main contenders for the 2025 US PGA Championship, Scottie Scheffler is the current undisputed World No. 1. A man of poise, finesse, and intelligence, Scheffler has thoroughly dominated the PGA Tour in 2025.

He has secured Top-10 finishes in almost every event in 2025, claiming multiple runner-up and top-five finishes along the way. Scheffler enters the 2025 PGA Championship on the back of five consecutive top-three finishes.

Throughout his illustrious career, the American golfer has bagged the 2024 Olympic gold medal, two Major championships (2022, 2024), two Players Championships (2023, 2024), one World Golf Championship (2022), and five Signature events across 2023 and 2024, among other honours. If he can keep his cool, Scheffler could be dominating the headlines on Sunday, May 18.

PGA Championship Odds: 5/1

#1 Rory McIlroy

Rory McIlroy Is the Favourite to Win the 2025 US PGA Championship

Winning the Masters earlier in 2025, Rory McIlroy completed his career grand slam, becoming only the sixth man in history to achieve the remarkable feat. McIlroy now eyes success in Charlotte, aiming to become only the fourth men’s golfer in history to win the Masters and the PGA Championship in the same year. If he succeeds, he will become the first one to do so in 50 long years.

McIlroy also happens to have a remarkable track record at Quail Hollow — the venue for the 2025 PGA Championship. He has won four titles at this course and is the venue’s record-holder (61 strokes in 2015). Jordan Spieth recently called Quail Hollow the “Rory McIlroy Country Club”, and we cannot disagree.

McIlroy’s strokeplay greatly suits the 7,626-yard par-71 course, with him boasting a massive 102 under par record at the venue.  Last year, he beat 2024 PGA Championship winner Xander Schauffele by five strokes to claim his fourth win at Quail Hollow.

The course will be tougher than it generally is for the Wells Fargo (Truist) Championship, but considering how familiar McIlroy is with the venue, he would undoubtedly start as the favourite this week.

PGA Championship Odds: 4/1
