Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Liverpool midfielder Stefan Bajcetic is set to RB Salzburg on loan despite interest from Barcelona, with the Spaniard’s medical due to take place today (29 August).

Fabrizio Romano Liverpool Update: Bajcetic Set For Salzburg Loan

Liverpool youngster Stefan Bajcetic is set to Austrian Bundesliga side RB Salzburg on a season-long loan despite Barcelona’s attempts to sign the midfielder, according to football transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano.

News broke on Tuesday that Salzburg, who are managed by Jurgen Klopp’s former assistant at Anfield Pep Lijnders, were interested in Bajcetic just days after g another Reds youngster in Bobby Clark for an estimated £10 million fee.

However, in a dramatic turn of events, Barcelona reportedly entered the race for the talented midfielder on Wednesday evening following Marc Bernal’s ACL injury.

Unfortunately for La Blaugrana though, as Romano has reported, issues with Financial Fair Play regulations made the move impossible, with Bajcetic heading to Austria to link up with Clark and Ljinders once again instead.

Posting on X (formerly Twitter), Romano wrote: “Stefan Bajcetić to RB Salzburg, here we go! No chance for Barcelona even with attempts overnight. Barça issues with Financial Fair Play block the move and they can’t proceed with La Liga limits.

“Bajcetić leaves Liverpool to Salzburg, travel and medical today.”

Champions League Football Awaits For Bajcetic

Barring any late hitches in his move to Salzburg, Bajcetic faces a season of regular top-flight football with last season’s Austrian Bundesliga runners-up, while he’ll also have the opportunity to play in the Champions League league phase.

The 19-year-old has already made four appearances for Liverpool in Europe’s premier competition, and he’ll now be able to add at least another eight appearances to that tally, in what will be considered by many as an excellent move for his development.

Salzburg finished bottom of the Champions League’s Group D last season, with their sole win coming against Benfica, and they enter the league/group phase this term for a sixth consecutive season having overcome both FC Twente and Dynamo Kyiv in the qualifying rounds.
