F1 Fans React as Lewis Hamilton Claims First Ferrari Pole at 2025 Chinese GP

Ferrari newcomer Lewis Hamilton has claimed Sprint pole for the 2025 Chinese Grand Prix.
The seven-time Drivers’ Champion secured his last Sprint pole at the 2021 British Grand Prix.
Lewis Hamilton ‘Gobsmacked’ After Claiming Sprint Pole at 2025 Chinese GP
Lewis Hamilton, who only finished 10th on his Ferrari debut at the 2025 Australian GP, claimed Sprint pole after setting a 1:30.849 in SQ3. His old foe, Max Verstappen, finished second, just +0.018 behind. McLaren’s Oscar Piastri (+0.080) out-qualified his teammate and Australian GP winner Lando Norris, who came home in sixth (+0.544).
After the session, Hamilton itted he did not expect his Ferrari to out-qualify Piastri and Norris’ McLarens.
“I didn’t expect that result, but so happy and proud. The last race was a disaster for us, there was more performance in the car but we couldn’t extract it,” said Hamilton (via Formula 1).
He added:
“I’m just a bit gobsmacked, I’m a bit taken back by it. I didn’t know when we would get to this position.
“After last weekend, it was a difficult start to the week. Came here with aggression, I started out this morning with a better feeling in the car and I can’t believe we are ahead of McLaren, who have been so fast through winter testing, last weekend and here.”
