F1 2025 Australian Grand Prix: Schedule, Prediction & Key Details of the Season Opener

After making the most of the three-day testing earlier in March, 20 world-class drivers and 10 uber-ambitious constructors will get their first taste of competitive action in Melbourne this weekend. When Does the F1 Season Start in 2025?
The 2025 F1 season kicks off in Australia with Melbourne’s iconic Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit hosting the opening round.
The three-day race week will begin with Free Practice 1 and 2 on Friday, 14 March. On Saturday, 15 March, we will have our first Qualifier to set the F1 grid for the first time in 2025. Then, finally, on Sunday, 16 March, we will have the highly anticipated Australian Grand Prix.
Australian GP: Track Length, Laps, and Fastest Lap
The iconic Albert Park has been hosting Formula 1 since 1996, having snatched the right away from Adelaide.
In its current guise, the Albert Park Circuit is 5.278 km (3.280 miles) long. The drivers drive around the track 58 times, taking the total race distance to 306.124 km (190.216 miles).
Ferrari poster boy Charles Leclerc holds the fastest lap during a race at Albert Park, completing a lap in only 1:19.813. He completed the blinder of a lap in the 2024 Australian GP.
Reigning F1 Drivers’ Champion, Max Verstappen, meanwhile, recorded the fastest-ever flying lap in the Australian GP last year, getting pole position in the Qualifier with a time of 1:15.915. He had an average speed of 251 kph (156 mph).
Who Won the Australian Grand Prix Last Season?
Former Ferrari pilot Carlos Sainz saw the chequered flag first in the 2024 F1 season, while his then-teammate Charles Leclerc finished second. It was Ferrari’s first 1-2 finish since the 2022 Bahrain Grand Prix. McLaren star Lando Norris completed the podium.
Pole sitter Max Verstappen had to retire due to a brake issue on Lap 3. Lewis Hamilton also retired due to power unit failure.
Who Is the Most Successful F1 Driver in Australian Grand Prix History?
Australian legend Lex Davison and seven-time F1 Drivers’ Champion Michael Schumacher are the t-most successful drivers, with each enjoying four wins. Davison won in 1954, 1957, 1958, and 1961 while Schumacher came out on top in 2000, 2001, 2002, and 2004.
Of the 20 drivers competing in the 2025 F1 season, only Lewis Hamilton has won here multiple times (2). Max Verstappen’s sole Australian GP win came in 2023.
Coming to the Constructors, Ferrari has the most wins with 14. Mercedes is second with 11 victories.
