Everton Vs Newcastle Preview

Everton will be aiming for back-to-back Premier League wins after getting off the mark on matchday 6. A quick-fire Dwight McNeil brace helped the Toffees overcome Crystal Palace 2-1 at Goodison Park.

Prior to that, Sean Dyche’s side had endured a miserable start to the campaign. No victories and highly publicised defeats to Aston Villa and Bournemouth saw the heat increase on the 53-year-old.

However, the return of star defender Jarrad Branthwaite in the victory over the Eagles helped ease the pressure on the Blues manager. Branthwaite helped marshal his colleagues to ensure the Merseysiders went home with the points.

For Newcastle, Eddie Howe’s side have enjoyed their best start to a top-flight campaign since 2011. The Magpies have only lost once and held Manchester City to a 1-1 draw last weekend.

Anthony Gordon netted from the spot against the champions as the Liverpudlian gets set to return to his former club. Sections of the Goodison Park faithful are still unhappy about his switch to St James’ Park in 2023.

The iconic stadium hasn’t proved a happy hunting ground for Gordon in recent times. He has scored just once in his last 15 appearances for both sides but will be desperate to change his fortunes on Saturday.

In the last three meetings on the blue half of Merseyside, Everton have won twice and lost the other. Since April, Dyche’s side have won six of their last eight matches. No other side can boast a better record in the same timeframe.

Everton Team News

The major concern for Everton is that Jarrad Branthwaite is expected to be ruled out with a hamstring injury suffered in training. His presence could really swing the pendulum in Newcastle’s favour.

Michael Keane is expected to deputise in his absence. Last week, Jesper Lindstrom was hauled off at half-time for Jack Harrison so the latter is expected to start from the off on the right-wing.

Up top, Dominic Calvert-Lewin will lead the line. The best football betting sites in the UK price the 27-year-old at 7/1 to open the scoring.

Newcastle Team News

Eddie Howe is expected to be without star striker Alexander Isak as he recovers from a broken toe. Therefore, former Toffee Anthony Gordon will lead the line up front.

Lewis Miley and Callum Wilson are still not ready to return and long-term absentees Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascellas won’t feature until the new year.

Defender Kieran Trippier is set to return to the starting XI after missing the Carabao Cup win against AFC Wimbledon in midweek.

Everton Vs Newcastle Predicted Lineups
