Everton rescue miraculous point in final Merseyside Derby at Goodison Park

Watch full Everton vs Liverpool highlights as the Toffees stunned their bitter rivals with a late equaliser in the final Merseyside Derby at Goodison Park.
Action-packed first half
Against all odds it was Everton who took an early lead in the derby, with Beto sending Goodison Park into a frenzy as he snuck in behind a high Liverpool back line.
The game’s first goal was worked to perfection by the Toffees with a quick free kick from Jarrad Banthwaite finding Beto one on one with Alisson, and the striker made no mistake with a smart finish under the goalkeeper to give Everton a shock lead.
It wasn’t long before the league leaders responded though, as some sloppy play at the back handed the ball to Mohamed Salah on the right which is always dangerous.
The Premier League’s top goalscorer this season has been just as influential with providing goals as he has been scoring them this year and again it was the ‘Egyptian King’ who grabbed an assist, with a floating ball into the box finding Alexis Mac Allister.
The midfielder somehow rose above all the onlooking Everton defenders on the edge of the six yard box and his glancing header had the Reds level in next to no time at all.
There were no more goals during the first period, but five yellow cards were dished out in what became a feisty derby early on.
Everton grind out dramatic point against Liverpool
Conor Bradley did well to escape a second yellow card on the hour mark for a late tackle and Arne Slot was forced to make a change with Trent Alexander-Arnold replacing the youngster.
Everton had a huge penalty shout shortly after the change, as a long ball bounced onto Ibrahima Konate’s hand in the box. But despite the Goodison Park appeals, Michael Oliver waved the call away.
The Toffees thought they were ahead from a late corner, but their second goal was quickly ruled out as Branthwaite was clearly offside in the buildup.
Despite all the Everton pressure at the start of the second half, Liverpool grabbed a shock lead thanks to who else but Mohamed Salah.
The Premier League’s top goalscorer pounced on a Curtis Jones rebound, with a tap in at the back post to silence the crowd.
Liverpool thought they had it won at the death, but in the fifth minute of stoppage time James Tarkowski stunned the Reds with a dramatic equaliser for Everton.
The centre back somehow found himself at the back post for a deep cross and as the ball bounced up in front of him, Tarkowski fired a strike into the top corner to rescue a late point for the Toffees.
Despite fans rushing the pitch and a lengthy VAR check, the goal was eventually given for Everton who managed to pull off the dream end to Merseyside Derby’s at Goodison Park.

Two players dismissed after full time
As soon as the full time whistle blew, Abdoulaye Doucoure sprinted over to the Liverpool away end and began to celebrate in front of them, leaving Liverpool players seething.
Curtis Jones and Doucoure were in the middle of a huge brawl after the celebrations, as all the players from both sides piled onto their teammates.
Doucoure and Jones were both shown a straight red card after the final whistle and Arne Slot was pulled away from referee Michael Oliver as he continued to protest into the night.
