Chelsea Lift the Champions League in 2012
The Blues became European kings for the first time in 2012. They were not always the most entertaining team, but interim coach Roberto Di Matteo’s tactics proved to be effective, as the Pensioners beat multiple tournament favourites on their way to the title.
In the semi-final, Chelsea beat the mighty Barcelona, beating them 1-0 in the first leg before holding them to a 2-2 draw in the second. With the score 2-1 in Barcelona’s favour, Chelsea captain John Terry saw a controversial red card in the 37th minute at Camp Nou. The visitors were furious, but they did not let the early send-off rattle them. They defended with all their might and held Barca off before Fernando Torres stamped their ticket to the final with an injury-time goal.
In the final, Chelsea faced another tournament favourite, Bayern Munich. The Bavarians scored the go-ahead goal through Thomas Muller in the 83rd minute, but the west London club equalised through the dependable Didier Drogba five minutes later. In the penalty shootout, Petr Cech helped the English team seal a 4-3 win.
Chelsea Claim Second Champions League Trophy in 2021
After beating Atletico Madrid and Porto in the Round of 16 and quarter-finals, respectively, Chelsea faced the competition’s most successful team, Real Madrid, in the semi-final.
The first leg ended 1-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu, giving the Blues a golden opportunity to claim the win in front of their fans. Thomas Tuchel’s side exceeded expectations at Stamford Bridge, securing a 2-0 victory over Los Blancos, thanks to goals from Timo Werner (28′) and Mason Mount (85′).
It was an all-English Champions League final at Porto that year as Manchester City qualified for their first-ever UCL showpiece. Pep Guardiola’s Cityzens were the favourites, but Chelsea prevailed in the final, with Kai Havertz’s 42nd-minute strike sealing a 1-0 win for the men in blue.

Chelsea have also won the second tier of European competitions, the UEFA Europa League, two times in their history. They won the Europa League for the first time in 2013, a year after lifting the Champions League. Their second Europa title, meanwhile, came at the end of the 2018-19 season.
Chelsea Secure First Europa League in 2013

Chelsea Win Europa League Final in 2019
Six years after lifting their first Europa League, Chelsea returned to the top step. After beating Dynamo Kyiv and Slavia Prague quite comfortably in the Round of 16 and the quarter-finals, respectively, Chelsea had a surprisingly close death match against Eintracht Frankfurt in the semi-final. After failing to beat the Germans over two legs (1-1 draw in both), Chelsea ultimately succeeded on penalties, claiming a 4-3 shootout win.
In the final, they met Premier League foes Arsenal. The Gunners, who had beaten Valencia 7-3 in the semis, could not put up a fight, succumbing to a 4-1 defeat.
