British tennis star Emma Raducanu’s next match will be in Strasbourg after being given a wildcard entry for the tournament.

The British No 2 was not expected to play again before the French Open, with Raducanu’s ranking boost putting her into contention for Roland Garros, which starts on 25 May.

But she is now due to make her debut at the Internationaux de Strasbourg, before heading on to Roland Garros for the second major of the year.

Ranked 49th in the world, Raducanu won three straight matches on clay courts for the first time at the Italian Open last week, eventually losing to world number three Coco Gauff in the last 16 on Monday.

As news of her wildcard entry to Strasbourg broke, the tournament posted on X (formerly Twitter): “A new Grand Slam champion will step on to the clay courts of the #IS25: Emma RADUCANU!”

Emma Raducanu stunned the world with her 2021 US Open victory.

Raducanu gained huge publicity with her 2021 US Open victory, at the age of just 18.

She became the youngest major winner since Maria Sharapova in 2004, and the lowest-ranked (150th) major winner wince Kim Clijsters at the 2009 US Open.

That victory remains the only major win of her career so far.
