Liverpool have been handed a major UEFA Champions League boost as the latest Eder Militao injury update confirms the Real Madrid star will need surgery on a torn ACL.

Arne Slot‘s side will meet Los Blancos on November 27 in a crunch encounter at Anfield. It’ll be the first time the two global powerhouses have met on Merseyside since Real’s 5-2 win in the 2022/23 campaign.

Ironically, Militao was on the scoresheet that evening but the Brazilian defender has now been ruled out until the new year. It’s estimated the 26-year-old will miss the next nine months of action.

The news will give the Reds a timely lift as they aim to beat Ancelotti’s side for the first time in 15 years. Since their famous 4-0 thrashing in 2009, the Premier League leaders have lost seven of the last eight.

All of those defeats have come in Europe’s elite competition. Two of them came under former boss Jurgen Klopp in the 2018 and 2022 finals.

However, the general feeling around the club is that they are primed to finally beat their nemesis. Especially as Real have a number of defensive injuries they are trying to navigate.

Eder Militao Injury Update Doesn’t Bode Well For Real Madrid

Naturally, the Eder Militao injury update will leave Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti plenty to ponder over the coming weeks. Militao s a growing list of Madrid stars in the treatment room.

Subsequently, the Italian boss will need to reshuffle his pack ahead of the trip to Liverpool. There have even been whispers that club legend Sergio Ramos could make a brief return to the Bernabeu.

Nonetheless, those rumours don’t appear to be true so Los Blancos will be seriously depleted in defence when they travel to Anfield.

Militao is not the only defender to have suffered an ACL. Euro 2024 winner Dani Carvajal and David Alaba both suffered the same fate. However, Alaba is due back in January.

Veteran right-back Lucas Vazquez will almost certainly miss out but goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is back in full training. He is set to take the gloves from Andriy Lunin.

Militao – who suffered his ACL injury against Osasuna before the international break – will undergo surgery on November 19 as he begins his long road to recovery.

Unfortunately, it is the second ACL tear he has endured in 15 months. The first came back in August 2023 on the opening day of the La Liga campaign.
