England legend David Beckham has reacted to Real Madrid’s Champions League quarter-final exit against Arsenal, hailing the Gunners for delivering a “complete performance” over two legs.

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal picked up an emphatic 3-0 victory over Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Tuesday, April 8. Declan Rice emerged as the hero of the match at the Emirates Stadium, scoring two sensational free-kicks against the reigning European champions. Mikel Merino scored the third goal to take the Gunners to a memorable triumph over Los Blancos.

Real Madrid, who have developed a taste for delivering jaw-dropping comebacks, headed into the second leg at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium dreaming of another unforgettable “Remontada (comeback/turnaround).” Featuring the likes of Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo, Kylian Mbappe, and Jude Bellingham, Madrid had plenty of firepower to put pressure on the visitors.

However, the “Remontada” never looked possible, as Arsenal were considerably better throughout the second leg as well. The game finished 2-1 at the Bernabeu on Wednesday, April 16, with Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli getting on the scoresheet for Arsenal and Vinicius Junior netting Los Blancos’s consolation goal.

David Beckham Reacts to Real Madrid’s Defeat Against Arsenal

Being a Manchester United legend as well as a former Galactico, Beckham was rooting for Real Madrid in their Champions League quarter-final meeting with Arsenal.

Although Beckham’s Real Madrid ended up on the losing side, he could not help but lavish praise on the North London club. He congratulated the Gunners for playing a complete game against the most decorated team in Europe.

Speaking on CBS, the Inter Miami co-owner said (via TBR):

A lot of people actually expected a bit of a comeback, that’s what they were saying in Madrid leading up to it. In all honesty, over the two games, Arsenal deserved it, it was the complete performance from Arsenal, great individual performances, great team performance and great management from Mikel, so they deserved it.

With their Champions League defence coming to an end, Real Madrid must turn all their attention to La Liga and the Copa del Rey. They are currently trailing Barcelona by four points in La Liga and will meet them in the final of the Copa del Rey on Saturday, April 26.
