Dalton Smith Next Fight: ‘Thunder’ Closes In On World Super-Lightweight Title Shot

Dalton Smith is certainly a man well known to the UK boxing public. Smith is one of Matchroom Boxing’s rising stars, and could be one of Britain’s next world champions in the next year.

Eddie Hearn has backed ‘Thunder’ to go all the way to the very top ever since turning pro, and he now isn’t too far away from that. He is ranked #1 with the WBC, #10 with the IBF and #11 with the WBO, meaning a world title shot looks likely.

Dalton Smith’s record now stands at 18-0 with 13 KO’s. He has won the European Super-Lightweight Title, which came after being British champion for a period of time in which he won the Lord Lonsdale belt outright with three successful defences.

In regards to the Dalton Smith next fight, it is yet to be confirmed who the 28-year-old will face. However, following his last win, it is likely that ‘Thunder’ will get his mandatory shot at the WBC Super-Lightweight Title before the end of the year.

The WBC champion at 140-pounds is Alberto Puello, who is defending his belt against Subriel Matias on the Ring Magazine card on July 12th. Smith is in line to face the winner before the end of the year, whoever that may be.

That being said, it could be at least a six month wait until Smith gets a shot at the world title. He may well have a ‘keep busy’ fight in the meantime, before then challenging for world honours in in the last few months of the year.

Should he fight for a world title next, the best UK boxing betting sites may have Smith as a slight underdog depending on the opponent. Dalton Smith’s next fight could very much well be his first world title shot.

Could Dalton Smith Fight British Rival Adam Azim Next?

Although there is no guarantee that Dalton Smith’s next fight will end in triumph, boxing fans are also talking about other potential fights moving forward at super-lightweight.

There has been some talk about a huge all-British clash with Adam Azim for some time now. This fight has been ordered before, but as of today it has never been close to being signed.

Both Azim and Smith are of course undefeated fighters, both who are close to world title shots in their own right. The fight seems unlikely next for both, but could be a blockbuster all-British clash in a year or two down the line with multiple world titles on the line.

The fight will surely happen at some stage, but it is highly unlikely to be Dalton Smith’s next fight. Instead, ‘Thunder’ will likely challenge the Alberto Puello vs Subriel Matias winner for the WBC World Super-Lightweight Title before the end of the year.

This seems like a legitimate option for ‘Thunder’ at the back end of 2025. The 28-year-old would certainly have a lot of backers as the best UK betting apps underdog pre-fight against the bonafide world champion.

His Excellency Turki Alalshikh may also take an interest in Dalton Smith and perhaps include him in more blockbuster Saudi cards going forward too. All in all, the Sheffield man has a lot of options going forward in the 140-pound division.
