Having beaten Manchester City in the FA Cup, we now know Crystal Palace will face Premier League winners Liverpool in the 2025 Community Shield, but as fans of both clubs look ahead to another trip to Wembley – just what is the Community Shield date 2025?

FA Community Shield Date 2025: When Will Liverpool and Crystal Palace Play?

Crystal Palace pulled off a remarkable 1-0 FA Cup win over Man City – bagging their first major trophy in their 164-year history – and in the process have now also set up a clash with title winners Liverpool in the Community Shield – the traditional new football season curtain-raiser.

The Community Shield Date 2025 will be played on Saturday 9th August 2025, with the kick-off time expected to be 3pm and, of course, at Wembley Stadium.

This will be the first time Liverpool and Crystal Palace have met in the Community Shield and also the first time the pair have faced-off at Wembley.

Liverpool and Palace will also warm up for their Community Shield clash on Sunday 25th May – as the sides meet at Anfield in the last round of Premier League 2024/25 fixtures.

A week after the Community Shield date 2025 will see the start of the new 2025/26 Premier League season – which gets going on Saturday 16th August.

Fixtures for the new league season will be announced on 18th June 2025.

Before that, however, it’s Palace vs Wolves on Tuesday night (20th May) for the new FA Cup winners – which is expected to be an evening of celebration at Selhurst Park.

Who Plays In The Community Shield Each Season?

The Community Shield match each season marks the start of the new season – and is contested by the previous season’s FA Cup and Premier League winners.

If the Premier League winners also won the FA Cup that season, then they will face the league runners-up.

The FA Community Shield was first played in 1908, when Manchester United beat Queens Park Rangers (1-1 and 4-0 replay).

Which was the first of 21 Community Shield wins for the Red Devils – the most successful team in the match.

Who Won The Community Shield Last Season (2024)?

Last season (2024) the new season pipe-opener saw Manchester rivals City and United lock horns in the Community Shield.

The match was drawn 1-1, so went to penalties, which Manchester City won 7-6.

That win was Manchester City’s seventh Community Shield success – having last won the match in 2019, when again winning on penalties (5-4 vs Liverpool).

How Many Times Have Crystal Palace Won The Community Shield?

Crystal Palace have NEVER played in a FA Community Shield match. As prior to their 2025 FA Cup win, the Eagles never won either the Premier League (or old League One) or the FA Cup.

The Eagles lifted their first major trophy in their 164-year history when seeing off Manchester City in a gutsy FA Cup at Wembley in 2025 – and will be back to the famous London stadium on 9th August to face Liverpool.

How Many Times Have Liverpool Won The Community Shield?

In contrast to Crystal Palace’s Community Shield record, Liverpool are no strangers to appearing in the season curtain raiser game.

The Reds have won the Community Shield a massive 16 times and need one more win to equal the second-most winning side Arsenal.

However, both Liverpool and Arsenal are still some way off the record haul of Manchester United. Who have an impressive 21 Community Shield wins to their name.
