Chelsea have confirmed that Cole Palmer will wear a new shirt number ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup.

The 23-year-old England international will wear the number 10 shirt from next season.

On the club’s official website, Chelsea released a statement confirming the switch.

It read: “Palmer, who has worn the No.20 shirt since g from Manchester City in September 2023, will make the switch ahead of our participation in the US-based tournament and could wear 10 for the first time when the Blues face Los Angeles FC in Atlanta on June 16.”

“ers are reminded that the full list of squad numbers for the 2025/26 season will be finalised once the summer transfer window has shut.”

In switching to the coveted number 10, Cole Palmer is following in some big footsteps.

Some iconic Blues heroes have worn that number over the years. The likes of Eden Hazard and Joe Cole immediately spring to mind.

While Palmer has not yet reached the career heights of those two, he is well on his way.

The first outing of Cole Palmer’s new shirt number could well be at the Club World Cup.

Chelsea’s opening fixture is against Los Angeles FC in Atlanta on June 16.

The new-look tournament will see 32 teams face off to be crowned the best club side in the world.

Only two Premier League teams are in the FIFA Club World Cup, with Chelsea and Manchester City representing the league.

Why Are Chelsea In The Club World Cup? 405m57

Chelsea qualified for the tournament thanks to winning the 2021 Champions League, while City won the competition in 2023.

Both this season’s Premier League winners, Liverpool, and runners-up Arsenal, have missed out.

That’s because there is a two-team limit for each nation.

Arsenal have done well domestically in recent seasons, but are yet to win a trophy under Mikel Arteta.

They have also not won a European trophy, ruling them out of Club World Cup qualification.

Liverpool, meanwhile, won the 2019 Champions League. But only teams winning from 2021-2024 have qualified, meaning the Reds also miss out.

Cole Palmer Stats Justify Giving Him A Prestigious Shirt Number 6s2l47

Although it will mean a different look to his playing kit Cole Palmer’s shirt number is of lesser importance to Blues fans.

His numbers in the goals and assists columns are what really matters, and on that front he continues to deliver.

Since arriving from boyhood club Manchester City in 2023 for a fee of around £40 million.

In that time, he’s scored 40 goals in 91 total appearances, and provided 27 assists.

He has also become an England regular, scoring twice in his 11 caps to date.

Palmer’s 22 goals in 33 Premier League appearances in his debut season with Chelsea put him in the spotlight.

Injuries limited his output in 2024-25, but he still managed 15 league goals and a further nine assists.
