MLS side Chicago Fire have made an approach to sign Manchester City and Belgium star Kevin De Bruyne on a free transfer this summer, according to football transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano.

Could Kevin De Bruyne be on his way to the MLS? According to reports, Chicago Fire have made an approach to sign the Belgium international on a free transfer from Manchester City this summer.

The 33-year-old is set to bid an emotional farewell to City when his contract expires at the end of the campaign, having spent 10 years at the club and established himself as a Premier League icon during that time.

De Bruyne announced that he’d be leaving via social media at the start of the month, and he has since opened up on his impending departure, stating that he’s open to all opportunities and that he’d weigh up his options with his family.

Saudi Arabia has been touted as a potential destination for the attacking midfielder, but it seems as though a move to the United States is likelier, with Eastern Conference side Chicago Fire ing Inter Miami in the race for his signature.

Football transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano revealed the news on his (formerly Twitter) : “MLS side Chicago Fire make approach to sign Kevin De Bruyne on a free transfer.

“De Bruyne will assess all options in the next days and weeks, but Chicago Fire are now showing strong interest with a specific project to attract KDB. Deal on.”

De Bruyne will depart the Etihad as one of the true all-time greats in English football, with six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, five Carabao Cups and a Champions League title to his name, along with numerous personal accolades.

His game time has dwindled in recent seasons as his injury struggles have worsened, however. Last season, he made just 18 English top-flight appearances for the Cityzens, his lowest tally since arriving in 2015.

This season, despite struggling with a hamstring issue from September to November, he has made 22 appearances in the league thus far and 33 across all competitions, notching a total of five goals and eight assists.

Throughout his time in the North West of England, the Belgian has made a total of 415 appearances for the 10-time English champions, tallying an impressive 107 goals for the club, including one in the win over Crystal Palace last time out.

It remains to be seen if the Manchester City legend will agree to a move to the MLS, whether that be to Chicago or Miami, but what remains clear is that he still has plenty left to give to the game as he nears the end of his career.
