Chelsea host bottom-placed Southampton at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday, and we’ve got a preview and prediction for the match, along with all the team news and confirmed lineups.

Chelsea vs Southampton Preview

Two struggling sides on downward spirals aim to restore some Chelsea welcome Championship-bound Southampton to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea come into the fixture on the back of a third consecutive defeat in all competitions, with their latest setback coming in a 2-1 loss to Aston Villa.

Enzo Maresca’s side have failed to win in their last seven away matches, but they have found solace at Stamford Bridge, winning three of their last four home games.

The Blues’ defensive frailties were once again exposed against Villa, with goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen making a costly error in the dying moments.

Maresca’s side remain outside the top four in the table, and inconsistency has left them with an uphill battle to secure Champions League football next season.

Southampton, on the other hand, are staring at relegation, sitting bottom of the table with just nine points from 26 matches.

Their latest defeat—a 4-0 thrashing by Brighton—was their eighth successive home loss in the league.

Despite their struggles, the Saints have shown some attacking promise on the road, scoring in four consecutive away matches.

Their last visit to Stamford Bridge in February 2023 ended in a 1-0 victory, but the absence of key players such as James Ward-Prowse has made them increasingly vulnerable.

They were handed a 5-1 beating by Chelsea at St Mary’s earlier this season, and another heavy defeat could be on the cards.

Chelsea vs Southampton Team News

Chelsea will be without Trevoh Chalobah, Omari Kellyman, Noni Madueke, Benoit Badiashile, Wesley Fofana, Nicolas Jackson, Romeo Lavia, and Marc Guiu due to injury. Mykhaylo Mudryk is suspended for the clash.

Tosin Adarabioyo is expected to step in for Chalobah, while Maresca may consider resting Reece James, who played the full 90 minutes against Villa. Filip Jorgensen’s place in goal remains uncertain after his costly mistake.

As for Southampton, Jan Bednarek is a doubt after picking up an injury against Brighton, while Taylor Harwood-Bellis is also a concern.

Jack Stephens was not risked last time out and may return, but Ross Stewart, Ryan Fraser, and Adam Lallana remain sidelined.

On-loan Chelsea midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu is ineligible to face his parent club.

Chelsea vs Southampton Confirmed Lineups

Chelsea: Jorgensen; Gusto, Adarabioyo, Colwill, Cucurella; Fernandez, Caicedo; Palmer, Nkunku, Sancho; Neto

Southampton: Ramsdale; Aribo, Bella-Kotchap, Bree; Sugawara, Downes, Smallbone, Walker-Peters; Fernandes; Onuachu, Sulemana

Chelsea vs Southampton Prediction

Even with a depleted squad, Chelsea should have enough firepower to score a few against Southampton’s fragile defence.

The Saints have been leaking goals and remain rooted to the bottom of the table, while Chelsea’s strong home form should help them secure a comfortable victory.

Prediction: Chelsea 3-0 Southampton
