Rangers Secure Old Firm Bragging Rights With Shock 3-2 Win At Celtic Park

Given their 16 point lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership and the fact they were at home, the best football betting sites in the UK heavily favoured Celtic to beat Rangers in the latest Old Firm derby.

However, it was clear to see from the first whistle that Brendan Rodgers’ side were up against a rejuvenated and in-form Rangers side. Since Barry Ferguson has taken interim charge at Rangers they have been in red-hot form, particularly in Europe.

The Gers penalty shootout win over Fenerbahçe on Thursday night in the Europa League had clearly given them supreme confidence, as they hit the front in just four minutes through the head of Nicolas Raskin.

The Belgian midfielder got on the end of a pinpoint James Tavernier corner with a glancing header at the front post, putting the away side in front very early on.

Eight minutes before half-time Rangers doubled their lead. This time it was Raskin who turned provider, setting up Mohammed Diomande who made no mistake from inside the penalty area with a fine right-footed strike into the bott left-hand corner.

The Gers were in dreamland as they went in at half-time two goals to the good against their Glasgow rivals.

HT: Celtic 0-2 Rangers

It was clear from the beginning of the second half that Celtic needed a quick response. They got that just four minutes into the half as Daizen Maeda rose highest from a Jota cross to claw a goal back for the home side.

It was well and truly game on now at Parkhead, with Rangers fans all too familiar of losing to their biggest rivals at Celtic Park of late. The best UK betting apps still fancied the visitors to hold on and claim all three points, but only just.

The pendulum has well and truly swung in Celtic’s favour and the hosts drew level with 16 minutes left on the clock. This time it was Reo Hatate who scored for the men in green and white, finding the bottom left-hand corner from a tight angle with a composed finish.

It looked like Celtic would go on to find a third and secure a memorable comeback, but on 88 minutes it was the visitors who again hit the from.

A long punt forward from Jack Butland wasn’t dealt with by the Celtic defence, with substitute Hamza Igamane finding the top corner with a thunderbolt of a strike to win it for the visitors.

This is the first time Rangers have beaten their Glasgow rivals at Celtic Park since October 2020. A memorable day for interim boss Barry Ferguson and his Rangers side.

WATCH: Celtic 2-3 Rangers Highlights

Next up for Celtic is another Scottish Premiership fixture in a fortnight as Brendan Rodgers’ side welcome Hearts to Parkhead on Saturday 29th March.

For Barry Ferguson and his Rangers side, they are next in action on the 29th March as well as they face a tricky away trip to Dundee FC.

Celtic lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership is now 13 points with eight league games remaining. The league title is almost certainly heading to Parkhead once again, unless Celtic well and truly collapse between now and the end of the season.
