Messi’s arrival has been massive for the footballing landscape in America. Fans across the country have been spending hundreds and even thousands of dollars to watch the Argentine genius in action. MLS’ digital viewership has also skyrocketed, while more and more top players are showing interest in moving to the States.

Speaking to FIFA, Sullivan said (via GOAL):

It’s pretty apparent that stadiums have sold out, tickets have been sold, more television viewers, just his impact on world football has been astronomical.

Obviously, non-soccer fans are buying tickets to watch him play and then they turn into soccer fans. That’s what I like to see here in the country.”

He concluded by adding:

These past few years, American soccer has jumped a lot of levels, but there are still people who aren’t aware of how fun and how the beautiful game can be so [enjoyable]. It’s good to see people switch over to watching soccer.”

Messi, 37, has played 42 games since moving to Florida in 2023. The 2024 MLS MVP has scored 36 goals and provided 20 assists. His contract with the David Beckham-owned club expires at the end of 2025.
