Carlo Ancelotti to Brazil in June: Real Madrid Sacking Rumours, Selecao Contract Details & More

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti and Brazil have reportedly reached an agreement in principle for the Italian to coach the Selecao in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ancelotti, who has long been linked with the Brazilian job, will reportedly take charge of the team for their CONMEBOL World Cup qualifiers against Ecuador and Paraguay in June.
If Ancelotti jets off to Brazil in June, Real Madrid will have a new coach in the dugout for the 2025 Club World Cup, which begins on June 15. With plenty of uncertainty around Ancelotti, Real Madrid, and Brazil, SportsCasting attempts to provide some clarity.
Have Real Madrid Sacked Carlo Ancelotti?
Real Madrid have not officially sacked Carlo Ancelotti. However, according to reports, they will not keep him on until the end of the 2024-25 campaign, despite his contract running until June 30, 2026. Ancelotti will reportedly leave his post after Los Merengues’ final LaLiga game on May 25.
After bolstering their attack with superstar Kylian Mbappe, the reigning Spanish and European champions were expected to push for their first-ever Treble. However, as things stand, they are set to finish without bagging even a single major trophy. They trail Barcelona by four points in LaLiga with five matches to play, crashed out of the UEFA Champions League after losing 5-1 on aggregate to Arsenal in the quarter-finals, and most recently lost the Copa del Rey final to the Blaugrana in extra time. Los Blancos also endured a 5-2 hammering to Barca in the Supercopa de Espana final in January.

Real Madrid have historically been a ruthless bunch, never hesitating to swing the axe following a disappointment. Only because they hold Ancelotti in high regard, they are reportedly planning to let him finish the LaLiga season and leave on good . According to Relevo, Real Madrid plan to give Ancelotti his final-year salary of €11m (£9.3m) and offer him a lifetime ambassadorial position.
Carlo Ancelotti’s Record With Real Madrid
Carlo Ancelotti has served Real Madrid in two spells. He first ed the club in 2013 and guided them to Champions League glory in his debut season, ending a 12-year drought for ‘La Decima.’ The Italian tactician enjoyed a bright start to the 2014-15 season as well, but injuries to key players saw Los Merengues end the season without a trophy. Ancelotti lost his job at the end of the season.
Ancelotti returned to Real Madrid in 2021, following a disappointing spell with Premier League side Everton. Many were sceptical, but Ancelotti proved his mettle, firing Los Blancos to LaLiga and Champions League glory at the end of the 2021-22 season. In 2022-23, Los Blancos won the Copa del Rey before doing the LaLiga-Champions League double again in 2023-24. The Spanish giants may not win any major trophy this season, but they have already bagged the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Continental Cup since August.

Between two spells, Ancelotti has overseen 348 games across competitions so far, winning 249 games, drawing 48, and losing 51.

This will allow him to meet and greet the squad before the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifier double-header. The Selecao will face Ecuador away from home on June 4 before hosting Paraguay five days later.
How Much Will Carlo Ancelotti Earn at Brazil?
Carlo Ancelotti and Brazil have yet to sign an official contract. However, according to reports, they have a verbal agreement, and it is pretty much a done deal. The Italian has not officially confirmed his departure, so his exact salary remains a mystery. The CBF expects Ancelotti to accept the offer by May 14.
Who Will Manage Real Madrid After Carlo Ancelotti Leaves?
If Carlo Ancelotti leaves Real Madrid for Brazil at the end of the 2024-25 LaLiga campaign, they will not have a manager for the first edition of the revamped FIFA Club World Cup. Former player and current Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso is the preferred replacement for Ancelotti, but he may not be in the dugout for the Club World Cup in the US.

An Interim Coach for Club World Cup
According to journalist Mario Cortegana, Real Madrid will use an interim coach for the tournament. Santiago Solari, who managed Real Madrid briefly during the 2018-19 season, is their top choice. During his brief spell, Solari oversaw 28 matches, taking the club to 18 wins, 2 draws, and 8 defeats. He has yet to manage in such a massive tournament, but Los Blancos seemingly have plenty of trust in the Spaniard.
It will be interesting to see how the Real Madrid dressing room responds to Ancelotti’s departure in the coming days.
