The week has gone from bad to worse for Andoni Iraola’s side after the latest Bournemouth injury update.

In a statement they wrote: “We are devastated to confirm that Enes Ünal has suffered a tear to his right anterior cruciate ligament during a training session this week.

“The Turkish striker, who has featured in every Cherries game since September, scoring two vital goals in our current club-record unbeaten run in the Premier League, experienced the injury in a routine drill on Tuesday morning.

“First and foremost, our thoughts are with Enes at this moment as he begins to process another significant period of rehabilitation ahead. He will undergo surgery to repair the ligament in the coming days and the club’s medical and performance staff will him in every way possible throughout.

“We are all behind Enes and will provide updates on his recovery progress when appropriate.”

Unal missed the first-half of the 2023-24 season with a cruciate ligament injury while at Getafe. He ed Bournemouth in the January transfer window of that season on loan, with the move turning permanent in the summer.

Bournemouth Attacking Woes

The latest Bournemouth injury update comes as a blow to their hopes of qualifying for Europe.

Bournemouth sit seventh in the league after 20 games – which would be good enough to play in Europe next season.

However, injuries to both Unal and Evanilson have left the Cherries short of attacking options.

The news means that Antoine Semenyo could play in a central attacking role.

However, Bournemouth could turn their attention to the transfer market given they can buy a replacement striker in the January window.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano tweeted that the January window is now ‘key to help Andoni Iraola’s side’.
