Redcar racecourse has come under attack this week after top jockey Tom Marquand posted pictures of their rundown weighing room and gym facilities – which has prompted the Beverley track to respond by showing off theirs.

Beverley ‘Bossing It’ With New Weighing Room Facilities For Jockeys

Yorkshire horse racing track Beverley has taken to social media to get the weighing room bragging rights – after some tracks, including Redcar, have recently come under fire for their dire changing room and gym options for riders.

Only this week leading rider Tom Marquand, who is married to fellow rider Hollie Doyle, posted a picture of an exercise bike at Redcar racecourse crammed into the valets’ laundry room – plus an exercise mat wedged between two rows of lockers in a grubbing-looking weighing room.

These jockey weighing room conditions have hit the headlines in recent weeks with the British Horse Racing Authority giving instruction that tracks are to provide separate exercise facilities.

But in defence of Redcar and some other tracks – the deadline for these improvements has been set for the end of July.

However, it seems Beverley racecourse have already hit their deadline – when chief exec Sally Iggulden took to social media to post a video of their plush new jockey weighing room and gym – that also included a kitchen, living area, many TV’s dotted about and even an outside chilling zone.

Beverley Weighing Room Has Separate Ladies Changing Area, Kitchen, Living Room and Own Gym

As you can see from the Beverley weighing room video above the track not only has a clean new look – but plenty of space and many areas for jockeys to use.

In addition to the separate ladies changing area to accommodate the increasing number of female flat jockeys in Britain – there is also a kitchen for riders and valets to make (or store) their own refreshments.

Then, as the video plays on, you can also see a slick new living area with sofas for chilling out between races – with TV’s scattered all around the areas.

There is also an outside area to enjoy if the weather is nice and with Beverley a flat only track that operates mainly in the spring and summer months – there will be plenty of hot days.

If that’s not enough the track also boasts a separate gym room, that is ed with two exercise bikes and a state-of-the-art running machine.

Beverley have clearly come out of the gates flying and this post will add further pressure on other tracks to follow suit.

I wonder which course will be next to show off their new facilities.

Redcar Under Fire After Video Emerged Of Dire Weighing Room

Jockey Tom Marquand, who is also member of the Professional Jockeys Association board, said: “I got there and found the bike in the toilet, stinking of everything that toilets do. The valets were all setting up and the Redcar weighing room is tiny, the canteen is tiny, and the only place to put the bike that was out of the way was by the backdoor in the washroom.

“That has an open gutter running underneath it from the washing machines, so it wasn’t the most hygienic or professional place to be sat on a bike for an hour, trying to lose a bit of weight.”
