Barcelona Player Ratings vs Borussia Dortmund: Raphinha, Yamal, and Lewandowski Shine in 4-0 UCL Quarter-Final Win

La Liga leaders Barcelona claimed a commanding 4-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final at the Lluis Companys Olympic Stadium on Wednesday night, April 9.
Raphinha and Lamine Yamal scored one goal each on either side of a brilliant Robert Lewandowski brace to all but secure Barca’s place in the UCL semi-finals.
Barcelona 4-0 Borussia Dortmund: Champions League Quarter-Final Summary
Hansi Flick’s Barcelona got off to a rapid start, lodging their first effort on target in the fifth minute. The effervescent Lamine Yamal picked up the ball down the inside-right channel, sharply cut inside, and went for goal with a left-footed effort. Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel made a fine stop to deny the teenager.
Two minutes later, Robert Lewandowski tested the goalkeeper with a side-footed effort. Kobel made a good stop to keep it goalless.
Dortmund’s resolve finally broke in the 25th minute, as Raphinha poked Pau Cubarsi’s shot beyond the goal line following a free-kick that the visitors foolishly conceded. Three minutes into the second half, Raphinha turned provider, nodding Yamal’s dinked cross across the face of the goal for Lewandowski to head in.

In the 66th minute, Barcelona broke rapidly, with Fermin Lopez carrying the ball, ing it to Yamal, and getting back on it in the final third. The Spaniard then penetrated the box from the right before pulling it back for Lewandowski, who applied a first-time finish to double his money.
Twelve minutes later, Barcelona struck again, firmly putting the game out of Dortmund’s reach. Lewandowski won the ball in Barca’s half, allowing Raphinha to go on the counter. The Brazilian dashed down the left flank before switching the ball out to Yamal on the right. The Spaniard cleverly poked the ball home to make it 4-0 for Barcelona.

Wojciech Szczesny (7/10):
The Barcelona goalkeeper had very little to do in the first half, but he proved his mettle when needed. The Polish stopper made a fine save to deny Niklas Sule in the 85th minute, preserving Barca’s clean sheet.
Jules Kounde (7.5/10):
Jules Kounde produced another solid performance in the Champions League on Tuesday. He was cool and collected on the ball, pressed relentlessly, and made some vital defensive actions. The Frenchman ended the game with three accurate long balls, two successful tackles, four recoveries, and two interceptions.
Pau Cubarsi (8/10):
Pau Cubarsi was unlucky not to score against Borussia Dortmund, as his toe-poke was heading towards goal before Raphinha nudged it in. He was also solid defensively, winning three aerial duels and attempting two tackles.

Inigo Martinez (8/10):
Inigo Martinez practically created Barcelona’s opening goal, heading the ball towards Cubarsi from the far post. He also made three clearances and made three recoveries on his way to another top-drawer display.
Alejandro Balde (6.5/10):
Brought plenty of energy but lacked quality on Wednesday night. Lost all four duels he contested, could not create a chance, and lost possession twice.
Frenkie de Jong (7.5/10):
The metronome in midfield, Frankie de Jong, dictated play from deep. He completed 68 of 70 es, delivered two accurate long balls, and slipped eight es into the final third. The Dutchman was solid in defence as well, winning three tackles, making two interceptions, and recording six recoveries.
Pedri (8/10):
After winning back-to-back Man of the Match awards in the Champions League, Pedri let his team-mates have some glory. The midfield general was still brilliant in distribution, playing 56 es with 90% accuracy, creating two chances, and delivering three accurate long balls. He also won all four of his duels and made seven recoveries.
Lamine Yamal (9/10):
The best teenager in world football, Lamine Yamal, delivered another jaw-dropping performance. He created two chances, scored a fine goal, played seven es into the final third, and made six recoveries. Genius.

Fermin Lopez (8/10):
Fermin Lopez ruled the space between Dortmund’s defense and midfield, regularly slipping es for his teammates to pounce on. Showed excellent drive to assist Robert Lewandowski’s second goal.
Raphinha (9/10):
The Brazilian could have let Pau Cubarsi have his moment, but we cannot blame him for finishing off that chance. He provided two excellent assists to Lewandowski and Yamal and ed five key es. Sublime.
Robert Lewandowski (9/10):
Robert Lewandowski may not be the player he once was, but he remains one of the best in the business. The former Borussia Dortmund striker tormented his old club with five efforts on target and two goals.
