LaLiga champions Barcelona are reportedly interested in Bundesliga defender Alex Grimaldo — a player also linked with a move to Real Madrid.

Barcelona have enjoyed a remarkable season under Hansi Flick, winning the LaLiga title, the Copa del Rey, and the Supercopa de Espana in the German’s debut campaign. However, like all great teams, the Blaugrana are not content with what they have. They are eager to strengthen their squad in the summer transfer window and have identified Grimaldo as a potential transfer target.

Barcelona Eyeing Move for Bundesliga Star Alex Grimaldo

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes.net, Barcelona have rekindled their interest in former La Masia product Alex Grimaldo. Barca were linked with Grimaldo last summer, but a move did not materialise due to financial constraints. The Catalans have enjoyed a pleasant turn of fortunes in recent months and are now looking to strengthen the left side of their defence.

As per the aforementioned report, Barcelona welcome his addition, as they value his wealth of experience and eye-catching attacking play. With the uncertainty surrounding a few defenders, bringing a player with experience, quality, as well as La Masia values is becoming increasingly lucrative. Additionally, Flick has been looking to add a player capable of creating danger from the left flank, and Grimaldo fits the bill perfectly.

Grimaldo supposedly does not rule out a move to Spain. Although he is happy at Leverkusen, Barcelona’s interest could persuade him to switch.

The Spaniard has racked up 4 goals and 13 assists in 48 games in the 2024-25 season. His 10 goal involvements in the Bundesliga came in handy as Leverkusen secured Champions League football for next season.

His finest showing, meanwhile, came in the 2023-24 campaign. The explosive left-wingback recorded 12 goals and 20 assists in 51 games to help Leverkusen to an unbeaten domestic double and the UEFA Europa League final.

Real Madrid Also Linked with Alex Grimaldo

Last week, Jorge C. Picon credited Real Madrid with an interest in Alex Grimaldo. With ex-Bayer Leverkusen Xabi Alonso expected to take charge of Los Blancos in June, the club is reportedly planning to reunite him with Alex Grimaldo.

Speaking on El Chiringuito, Grimaldo discussed his links with Real Madrid, calling it a “source of pride.”

I’m very happy to be linked with Real Madrid. It’s a source of pride that people can think I’m at the level to play for one of the greatest teams in the world,” said Grimaldo about the rumours (via Madrid Universal).

It’s what I’m working for and one of my ambitions.”

Grimaldo’s current deal with Leverkusen expires on June 30, 2027.
