Barcelona Confirm Injuries To First-Team Duo After Atletico Madrid Victory

La Liga leaders Barcelona have confirmed that first-team pair Marc Casado and Inigo Martinez suffered knee injuries in their 4-2 victory over Atletico Madrid on Sunday night, 16 March.
Hansi Flick’s Barcelona took a significant step towards the Spanish top-flight title on Sunday, as they came from behind to record a thrilling 4-2 victory over Atletico Madrid away at Metropolitano Stadium.
Courtesy of Julian Alvarez and Alexander Sorloth, Atletico were 2-0 up going into the final 20 minutes of the game. Barcelona, however, refused to cave in and were back at 2-2 in the following eight minutes. Robert Lewandowski scored the opening goal in the 72nd minute before Ferran Torres restored parity in the 78th.
In the second minute of injury time, Barcelona pulled ahead for the first time on the night, with Lamine Yamal scoring a brilliant goal from outside the box. Six minutes later, Barca got the insurance goal, with Torres doubling his tally with a clinical drive from the edge of the area.
The victory was crucial for Barca, as it allowed them to move to the top of the rankings with 60 points. Real Madrid also have 60 points to their name, but they have played a game more. Los Rojiblancos, meanwhile, are now third with 56 points.

Martinez was one of Barca’s best players against Atletico Madrid. Not only was the centre-back rock solid, but he also brilliantly assisted Lewandowski’s opener.
On Casado, the statement added:
“Tests carried out this morning have shown that first-team player Marc Casado has a ligament injury in his right knee. Further tests are pending to determine the exact extent of the injury and further treatment.”
Casado’s issue seems to be a lot more serious. As per reports, the Spaniard could be out of action for at least two months, thus ruling him out for pretty much the 2024-25 season.
