Atletico Madrid will welcome Barcelona to the Metropolitano Stadium for the most important game of their season on Wednesday night, 2 April.

Having crashed out of the UEFA Champions League and fallen nine points behind leaders Barcelona in the La Liga title race, Copa del Rey is practically their only shot at redemption this season.

Los Rojiblancos and the Blaugrana played went all out in the first leg, playing out a thrilling 4-4 draw at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys. The visitors put in a heroic shift to salvage a draw after going 4-2 down.

Atletico Madrid vs Barcelona Match Preview

Atletico Madrid

Diego Simeone’s side suffered a string of disappointments in March. Their misfortunes began with a 2-1 defeat to Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League Round of 16. In the following game, Getafe got the better of them, nicking a 2-1 victory.

Los Rojiblancos gave it their all in the Champions League Round of 16 second leg, beating Real Madrid 1-0 in 120 minutes. However, the All-Whites still had the last laugh, as they nicked a thrilling win on penalties.

In their last match before the international break, Atleti suffered a demoralising 4-2 defeat to Barcelona in La Liga. Simeone hoped for a change of fortunes after the international window, but it did not turn out that way, as Espanyol held them to a 1-1 draw.

Barcelona

Sitting on the opposite end of the spectrum, Barcelona have been in sensational form in 2025. Hansi Flick’s side are the only unbeaten team of 2025, going 20 games without defeat in all competitions. They have won 16 games and drawn four.

The Blaugrana booked their place in the Champions League quarter-finals last month, beating Benfica 3-1 on aggregate. They have also capitalized on Real Madrid’s inconsistent showings in La Liga, going three points clear at the top of the league rankings.

Barcelona are currently on a six-game winning run in all competitions. In their previous game, Flick’s boys secured a thumping 4-1 victory over Catalan rivals Girona. Robert Lewandowski grabbed headlines in that game by scoring an excellent brace.

Atletico Madrid vs Barcelona Team News & Injuries

Atletico Madrid

The hosts pretty much have a clean bill of health heading into the Copa del Rey semi-final second leg. Veteran Koke, who has not played in Atleti’s last eight games, will take a late assessment to prove his fitness. Meanwhile, Robin Le Normand, who suffered a head injury against Espanyol, should be fit enough for the bench.

Angel Correa will be Atletico Madrid’s only surefire absentee, as he is serving a suspension for using foul language towards the referee.

Barcelona

Barcelona, on the other hand, will be without long-term absentees Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Marc Bernal, and Marc Casado. Dani Olmo, who suffered an adductor injury in Barca’s last outing, will also miss the game.

Andreas Christensen, meanwhile, could feature if he es the late fitness test.
