Premier League leaders Liverpool travel to the Midlands to take on Aston Villa on Wednesday, and our match preview includes the latest team news and confirmed lineups, as well as a prediction ahead of the action.

Aston Villa vs Liverpool Preview

Fresh off the back of a narrow 2-1 win over Wolves at the weekend, Liverpool return to Premier League action with a trip to the West Midlands to take on fellow Champions League last 16 side Aston Villa on Wednesday evening.

Goals from Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah saw the Reds head into the break with a two-goal lead last time out, and despite a shaky second half in which Matheus Cunha halved the deficit, Arne Slot’s side held on for three points.

The result, Liverpool‘s first win in three across all competitions, maintained their seven-point lead at the summit of the English top-flight table. It followed on from a 2-2 draw against Everton in the Merseyside derby four days prior.

Villa, meanwhile, are 22 points behind their Merseyside counterparts down in ninth place, and they come into this one without a win in each of their last four league outings, having drawn three and lost one.

Unai Emery’s side were held to a disappointing 1-1 stalemate by 10-man Ipswich Town at the weekend, where star forward Ollie Watkins netted his 11th league goal of the campaign. Prior to that, the Villans beat Tottenham 2-1 in the FA Cup fourth round, while they also beat Scottish champions Celtic 4-2 in the Champions League three weeks back.

Wednesday’s clash will be the second time that Aston Villa and Liverpool have met this term, with November’s reverse fixture ending 2-0 in favour of the league leaders. Salah and Darwin Nunez scored the goals on that day. By avoiding defeat, the Reds will extend their unbeaten record against Villa to 10 straight matches across all competitions.

Aston Villa Team News

The Villans are without numerous first-team players for Liverpool’s visit, with all of Pau Torres (foot), Matty Cash (unspecified), Amadou Onana (thigh), Ross Barkley (calf) and Boubacar Kamara (unspecified) ruled out.

Leon Bailey (unspecified) and Ezri Konsa (unspecified) are also major doubts.

Liverpool Team News

As for the Reds, Joe Gomez has been ruled out for a lengthy spell due to a thigh injury, while Cody Gakpo is expected to miss out on a second successive Premier League match after suffering an ankle injury in the Merseyside derby.

Curtis Jones, who was red carded in the aftermath of the derby, is eligible to make his return after serving a one-match ban last time out, but Arne Slot remains suspended and therefore won’t take to the dugout at Villa Park.

Aston Villa vs Liverpool Confirmed Lineups

Aston Villa Confirmed Lineup:

Liverpool Confirmed Lineup:

Aston Villa vs Liverpool Prediction

Unsurprisingly, given the hosts’ recent form in the league, the UK’s best football betting sites favour Liverpool to secure all three points at Villa Park at a price of around 5/6. A draw is valued at 3/1 and a victory for Villa is at 29/10.

We at SportsCasting, like many, expect the Reds to reign triumphant in this one despite a fairly unconvincing performance against Wolves last time out.

Slot’s side will be boosted by the return of Jones, while the hosts may struggle without the likes of Onana, Bailey, Kamara and Konsa. We’re backing Salah and co. to take full advantage and are predicting a 2-0 scoreline in favour of the visitors.

Prediction: Aston Villa 0-2 Liverpool
