Argentina fans have mercilessly mocked Raphinha after Brazil’s shambolic 4-1 defeat in their 2026 World Cup Qualifier at El Monumental on Tuesday, 25 March.

Raphinha cut a frustrating figure as the Selecao slipped to one of their worst defeats in Superclasico history, failing to score or assist. The victory saw Argentina become the first CONMEBOL outfit to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Brazil, meanwhile, dropped to fourth place in the confederation rankings, with them now trailing leaders Argentina by 10 points.

What Did Raphinha Say About Argentina?

Argentina and Brazil share a fierce rivalry. Sparks fly every time these two South American giants meet, with both sets of players doing everything possible to secure bragging rights. Psychological warfare is very much a part of this rivalry, and Raphinha wholeheartedly participated in it before their 2026 World Cup qualifier.

In an interview on Romario TV, Romario asked (via GOAL):

We are going to play against Argentina, our biggest rival. Now, thank God, without Messi, are we going to beat them?

Raphinha responded:

We will beat them, no doubt. On and off the pitch, if we have to.”

He also vouched to try his best to score against La Albiceleste before ending the conversation with a harsh remark.

Are you going to try to score a goal against Argentina?” asked Romario.

Raphinha replied:

Yes, with everything.”

The pair then ended the conversation by saying:

Romario – “F**k them?

Raphinha – “F**k them.”

Fans Troll Brazil Star Raphinha for Statement on Argentina

Raphinha was well below his best in the game against Argentina. He failed to any efforts on target, played just 16 accurate es, and could not create even a single goal-scoring opportunity.

Argentina fans understandably hit back at Raphina after the game, mocking him for his trash talk.

One TV commentator remarked:

Raphinha talked a lot, but played very little.”

@SamueILFC chimed in, saying:

“Ballon d’Or favourite” Raphinha couldn’t back up his trash talk and lost 4-1

@Asensii20 noted how Endrick kept Raphinha from getting a booking against Argentina.

18 year old Endrick is holding “leader” Raphinha back so he doesn’t get sent off

@UTDTrey claimed Raphinha’s exploits were down to Barcelona’s high line.

@BlancoRMzz called out the hypocrisy of some Barcelona fans for harshly criticising Vinicius Junior.
Raphinha was the arrogant one that did all the talking before this game, shoved Tagliafico over for no reason and had to be held back by a kid, but just watch how everyone will ignore that and make a bigger deal out of Vinicius lifting two fingers.”

Argentina Coach and Players React to Raphinha’s Pre-Match Comments

Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni reacted to Raphinha’s trash talk after the game, assuring the Brazilian did not mean to hurt anyone.

Argentina veteran Nicolas Otamendi, however, was not as kind.

Leandro Parades explained how Raphinha’s comments fueled Argentina to do better.

You shouldn’t talk beforehand, especially when you can’t back it up on the field afterward. As soon as he [Raphinha] said that, we sent it to the WhatsApp group,” said Parades.

We always do our talking on the field.

Raphinha has played 32 games for Brazil so far, scoring 11 times.
