Anthony Joshua Considering ‘Serious Investment’ In EFL Championship Club Watford

Former heavyweight world champion boxer Anthony Joshua has revealed that he’s considering making a ‘serious investment’ in EFL Championship club Watford FC.
EFL Championship side Watford FC may soon have a new celebrity investor, as former unified heavyweight world champion Anthony Joshua has confirmed that he’s considering investing in the club.
Joshua, who hails from Watford and is seen by many as a local hero, has made several investments with his boxing fortune in recent months. This reportedly includes a number of properties in the London area.
Amid his recent purchases, reports emerged that the 35-year-old could be looking to purchase a share in his local football club, and he has now revealed that this is a ‘serious’ option that could well come to fruition.
Anthony Joshua Considering Watford FC Investment
Explaining his recent flurry of investments, Joshua told Seconds Out: “We wanted to move into private equity, venture capital funds. As you earn, naturally you want to save, so rather than me spending recklessly, I’m trying to invest money into certain asset classes and that was an opportunity that presented itself.
“Nothing’s come of it yet. It’s a serious investment. If it comes off, it’s one that should do well.
“If they went back to the Premier League, then I’d need to get a shop on Market Street because the traffic that would be coming through Watford would be phenomenal.
“I being on Market Street and watching the football fans. I’m not a massive football fan myself, but watching the fans steamroll Market Street and steamroll Vicarage Road were real good scenes.
“If we don’t do it, then good luck to them anyway because they’re a great team.”

The Hornets finished the season in 14th place in the second tier table, comfortably maintaining their status as a Championship club for the 2025/26 season despite going winless across their last five games of the campaign.
Of course, they were formerly a Premier League side, spending five seasons in the top flight between 2015 and 2020, as well as another season in 2021/22, but have remained a Championship side since their relegation in 2022.
An investment from Joshua could provide the club with a platform to return to the top tier, with reports also suggesting that the fighter may be looking to get some Saudi Arabian investors on board as well.
