2025 Grand National Race Review: How Did It Play Out?

The winner gained 27 lengths jumping on the runner-up I Am Maximus and travelled strongly throughout, jumping well and keeping a prominent position.

Heading over the second last fence, there were plenty in with chances as Grangeclare West, Meetingofthewaters, Minella Cocooner, Nick Rockett and I Am Maximus were spaced out across each other – all Mullins runners!

Former King George hero Bravemansgame ran well for a long way before fading inside the closing stages for Paul Nicholls.

Iroko was launching a threatening challenge around the outside and stayed on for fourth but failed to lay a glove on the front three who had pulled well clear inside the final furlong.

Nick Rockett was game in front and found plenty from Patrick Mullins’ desperate calls to quicken, denying I Am Maximus back-to-back wins in the race in a dramatic finish.

Willie Mullins Wins Consecutive Grand Nationals & Third Total

Mullins enjoyed his first success in the race 20 years ago in 2005 when Ruby Walsh steered Hedgehunter to glory in the 4m 2Β½f handicap steeplechase.

Last year, I Am Maximus won the race to hand Mullins a second title. Nick Rockett becomes his third winner of the race.

Who Is The Grand National 2026 Favourite?

I Am Maximus currently heads the market for next year’s renewal at 20/1, followed by Iroko, Ultima winner Myretown and Nick Rockett at 25/1.
