Carolina Panthers
In 1993, the Carolina Panthers formed the first NFL expansion team in 30 years. Former NFL wide receiver Jerry Richardson spearheaded the franchise’s bid and attracted ers like the Seahawks‘ former head coach Mike McCormack. In the Panthers’ first season, the team set a record for most wins by an expansion team with a 7-9 record. By the second season, the Carolina franchise made it to the NFC championship game with a 12-4 record and NFC Western division win.
In 2003, the Panthers made it to their first Super Bowl with the help of quarterback Jake Delhomme, cornerback Ricky Manning, Jr., and running back Stephen Davis. Despite losing to the Patriots, the Carolina team helped set the record for the highest-scoring fourth quarter in Super Bowl history. Twelve years later, quarterback Cam Newton led the Panthers to Super Bowl 50 where the team lost to the Denver Broncos, 10-24.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Carolina Panthers running back Chuba Hubbard went out on a high note. Last Sunday, Hubbard scored the game-winning touchdown run in overtime, gained 152 yards and earned NFC offensive player of the week honors. But his season ended Saturday after the Panthers placed the four-year veteran on injured reserve with a calf […]
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Carolina Panthers will be without at least two more key contributors, inside linebacker Josey Jewell (concussion/quadriceps) and rookie nickel Chau Smith-Wade (illness/chest), for Sunday’s Week 17 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. There could be more, considering the number of NFL players who were listed as doubtful Friday: Amaré Barno, Jadeveon Clowney, Cam […]
NFL fans all but buried the career of Bryce Young two games into the 2024 season. Who could blame them? Following up an underwhelming rookie performance, Young started the first two games and looked out of synch. Certainly not like the player who earned the 2021 Heisman Trophy. Young didn’t produce one touchdown and […]
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Carolina Panthers’ challenges along the defensive line continue growing. For the third game in a row, the Panthers allowed an NFL opponent to run for at least 200 yards as Dallas Cowboys Rico Dowdle, an Asheville, N.C., native, rushed for a career-high 149 yards Sunday at Bank of America Stadium. The Cowboys […]
At least Nick Scott had something else to think about last weekend. The “injured” Carolina Panthers safety became a father for the second time with the birth of a daughter, Noa. “She was born Saturday morning,” Scott said, adding between moments of fatherhood, he found time “to watch Penn State and these guys fight hard […]
Here’s something NFL fans have not experienced in two-plus seasons. The Carolina Panthers, losers of three straight, opened Monday as the early betting favorite to beat the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday at Bank of America Stadium. The Panthers (3-10) have dropped three straight close contests against playoff contenders. Against the NFC East-leading Philadelphia Eagles (11-2), […]
Since taking over the head-coaching responsibilities of the rebuilding Carolina Panthers last February, Dave Canales continues to exude optimistic enthusiasm. Before most post-practice press conferences, the rookie coach famously starts with a variance of: “Another great day …” Sunday’s post-game speech was a bit different. Following a 22-16 loss to the host Philadelphia Eagles, Canales […]
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Standing before a hanging heavy bag, Mike Boone waited for his cue. When he got it, the Carolina Panthers running back drove toward the swinging target, connecting on the upswing, with leverage. “There you go,” position coach Bernie Parmalee yelled during Wednesday’s practice. “There you go.” A few minutes earlier Parmalee stood before […]
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — On a slant route with under two minutes remaining Sunday, Carolina Panthers’ Adam Thielen cradled a Bryce Young touchdown , forcing overtime against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Bank of America Stadium. The clutch catch wasn’t the veteran wide receiver’s best play during the Buccaneers’ eventual 26-23 victory. It wasn’t his second-best, […]
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Will NFL offensive tackles stand up and lobby their front offices for more? When the Detroit Lions ran a play Thursday featuring tackle Penei Sewell, you could be sure “hog mollies” in living rooms throughout the nation collectively rose out of their seats as the first-quarter play developed. Sewell, a Pro […]
