WR Jer’Michael Carter Emerges as Sought-After Transfer Target, Georgia Could Be A Sleeper Destination

McNeese State WR Jer’Michael Carter has emerged as a highly sought-after trade target in the college football transfer portal.
From relative obscurity at McNeese State to one of the most talked-about names in the transfer portal, Jer’Michael Carter’s story is a testament to seizing opportunity.
Standing at 6-foot-4 and 184 pounds, Carter has quickly become a coveted wide receiver option for programs across the country. And now, West Virginia is officially in the mix. The Mountaineers’ coaching staff extended an offer to Carter this week, hoping to lure the Louisiana native to Morgantown to bolster their receiving corps.
Carter, a native of Kentwood, Louisiana, spent the past two seasons with McNeese State, quietly developing into one of the top playmakers in the FCS.

Production That Turned Heads
While Carter’s freshman year was modest—just three catches for 56 yards in four appearances—it was his sophomore campaign that changed everything.
In 2024, Carter led McNeese State in nearly every receiving category. He recorded 37 receptions, 537 receiving yards, and three touchdowns, averaging an impressive 15.5 yards per catch over 12 games. He had five games with over 50 yards receiving, including a breakout performance against Houston Christian, where he notched 108 yards on just five receptions.
In the season finale against Lamar, Carter posted a career-high six catches, showcasing the consistency and growth that has now caught the attention of Power Five programs.
Could the Georgia Bulldogs Swoop In?
Since entering the NCAA Transfer Portal, Carter has become one of the most sought-after wideouts still available. Along with West Virginia, his list of suitors now includes Tennessee, Virginia Tech, Oklahoma, Baylor, Vanderbilt, Utah, UConn, and Colorado State. And the list could grow.

Carter is set to take visits to several of these schools, including Baylor, Oklahoma, Utah, and Vanderbilt, with more potentially on the horizon.
One name to watch? Georgia. With the Bulldogs facing significant turnover at wide receiver heading into next season, Carter could be an ideal addition. Georgia has made a habit of reloading through the portal, having added five receivers over the past two seasons. With names like Dominic Lovett, Arian Smith, and Colbie Young departing, Kirby Smart’s staff is expected to aggressively pursue WR talent, and Carter could find himself a prime target if UGA enters the fray.
A Perfect Fit for West Virginia?
For West Virginia, landing Carter would be a major win. His size, athleticism, and ability to stretch the field align perfectly with what the Mountaineers are looking for as they aim to revamp their offense. Carter would bring a proven ability to make big plays and could quickly become a favorite target in Morgantown.
With the transfer portal’s spring window closing soon, the clock is ticking for programs to make their pitch. But for Carter, the journey is just beginning. A new chapter awaits, and wherever he lands, he’s poised to make an immediate impact.
