The Cleveland Browns mercifully ended the fall of Shedeur Sanders in the 2025 NFL Draft on Saturday. In the fifth round, Sanders was selected with the 144th overall pick, and will a crowded quarterback room in Cleveland for his rookie season.

Will he have any chance of starting during the 2025 campaign?

Will Shedeur Sanders See The Field In 2025?

The decision is a curious one for the Browns. They appeared to be in need of an their QB room entering the draft, with the lackluster duo of Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett in place at the top of the depth chart.

Adding a young prospect was thought to be one of their main priorities, but they didn’t address the issue until late on Day 2. With one of the final picks of the third round, the Browns picked a quarterback, but it wasn’t Sanders.

They took Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel instead, who wound up being the 5th and final QB selected ahead of Sanders.

It makes for quite a crowded quarterback room in Cleveland. There are now two veterans and two rookies that are projected to enter training camp, meaning that something will have to give before the rosters are finalized by the start of the season.

Shedeur Sanders will have to work his way up the depth chart, starting at or near the bottom. It is likely that the Browns will be entering training camp with Flacco and Pickett in the top two spots. That would create a battle for the third spot between Sanders and Gabriel, and even the winner may or may not be made active regularly throughout the season.

But there are few rosters in the NFL that would allow for a quarterback buried on the depth chart to eventually find himself starting. Flacco is 40 years old, and Pickett was already given up on by one team early on in his career.

If Shedeur Sanders uses his unprecedented draft fall as fuel and motivation for the better, then there is a chance that we’ll see him on the field during the season.
