USC Commit Alijah Arenas Placed In Medically Induced Coma After Cybertruck Crash

Alijah Arenas is an 18-year-old five-star recruit who has committed to play his collegiate ball at USC, and is the son of former NBA star Gilbert Arenas. He was placed in a medically induced coma on Thursday morning, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
Alijah Arenas Involved In Car Accident, Placed In Coma
According to reports, Alijah Arenas was involved in a single car accident in the early hours of Thursday morning in Los Angeles.
The Cybertruck he was driving lost control in the neighborhood of Reseda, California, hitting a fire hydrant before ultimately slamming into a tree. He was pulled from the wreckage and immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where he was placed into a coma despite being described as “stable”.
A source told the LA Times that drugs and alcohol were not involved in the incident.

Arenas was born in Oakland, California but grew up in Los Angeles. He attends Chatsworth High School, where he has become one of the top prospects in the class of 2025. He led his school to the CIF Division II State Championship in March, and was named a McDonald’s All-American. His commitment to USC came amongst offers from places like Kentucky, Kansas, and Arizona.
His father, Gilbert Arenas spent 11 years in the NBA. He won the Most Improved Player Award in 2002-03, and made three All-Star appearances in his career. His best years came between 2005 and 2007, as he averaged 27.7 points per game during the span and made the All-NBA team in all three seasons.
He hosts a popular podcast, which was cancelled for the day on Thursday without a reason listed.
USC has declined to comment due to Alijah Arenas not being an official student yet.
