Trent Williams Finalizing New Contract

The holdout is over.

Per his agents, Williams is heading to San Francisco to finalize a new deal and return to the team.

Williams had been in a prolonged contract dispute with the organization over his deal, particularly over guaranteed money.

In 2021, Williams signed a six-year, $138.1 million deal. Williams has three years left on his contract but no guaranteed money left.

Despite being considered the best offensive tackle in football, Williams, 36, watched three of his younger contemporaries — Tristan Wirfs, Penei Sewell, and Christian Darrisaw — sur his average annual salary of $23.01 million.

Per OvertheCap, Williams is the sixth highest-paid lineman in the NFL. Williams’ average annual salary will likely increase after g the reworked deal.

It cannot be overstated how important Williams is to San Francisco’s offense. Since being traded to the 49ers from the Commanders in 2020, Williams has made four Pro Bowls and been named First-team All-Pro three times.

Will Trent Williams Play In Week 1?

With Williams back in San Francisco, the star tackle can play in Week 1 against the New York Jets.

The Williams g comes one week after wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk and the 49ers agreed to on a four-year, $120 million extension, making him one of the highest-paid players at his position.

Two integral pieces of the 49ers offense are back in the lineup.

The good news continued for San Francisco as Christian McCaffrey returned to practice on Tuesday. McCaffrey has been dealing with a calf injury for the majority of training camp.

The 49ers host the Jets in Week 1 on Monday Night Football.
