Steph Curry Out At Least A Week – What Does It Mean For Warriors?

The Golden State Warriors were able to pull off an upset victory in Game 1 of their second round series against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday night, but it came at a price. Star guard Steph Curry was injured in the first quarter of action and didn’t return, and his team is anticipating being without him for at least a week.
Steph Curry Out, Expected To Miss At Least A Week
Golden State has been in desperate need of rest for some time now. There was plenty of talk about fatigue amongst the team as the regular season came to a close, and the postseason schedule has already been grueling for them. They were forced to participate in the Play-In Tournament instead of resting, and were pushed to play a full seven games against a physical Houston Rockets team in Round 1.

All the while, their aging veterans have been dealing with various ailments. Steph Curry has had a heavy tape job on the thumb on his shooting hand, which is likely fractured and in need of surgery, and Jimmy Butler is still feeling the effects of the tailbone injury sustained early in the postseason.
They’ve gutted it out, having not had more than a single day of rest since April 26th. So when Curry pulled up with his hamstring injury in Game 1, it was easy to see that the fatigue may have played a large role.
While he exited the game and didn’t return, there was hope that the injury was a minor one. But the all-important MRI that was conducted on Wednesday revealed a strain that was serious enough for the Warriors to expect Curry to miss at least a week of action.
Warriors Will Have To Find New Ways To Win Without Their Star
The prognosis presents a serious issue for Golden State. Not only will Curry miss Game 2 on Thursday night, but he’ll likely be out for the next two and perhaps even three contests after that. Four games are scheduled to be played in the series between now and next Wednesday, and the Warriors will have some massive shoes to fill if they hope to maintain their lead on Minnesota by the time their star player could potentially make a return.
Steph is dealing with a Grade 1 strain. If he misses the average time lost, a return in Game 6 or Game 7 is plausible. https://t.co/v3WyJ1drJd

They were able to hold on to secure an 11-point victory on Tuesday night, but it can be argued that the Timberwolves beat themselves. Minnesota missed each of their first 16 three-point attempts in the game, finishing with a 17% clip from long range after a regular season that saw them post the 4th-highest three-point percentage in the league.
It is unlikely that the Timberwolves make extremely poor shooting a theme for much longer, meaning that the Warriors will have to adjust.
Given the news on Steph Curry, Minnesota is now a massive 10.5-point favorite for Game 2, which is set to take place on Thursday in Minnesota.
