The NFL is heading to the Emerald Isle next season. In 2025, the NFL will play its first-ever regular-season game in Dublin, Ireland. The Pittsburgh Steelers will be the designated home team for the game.

Steelers Head To Ireland In 2025

Next season, the Steelers will play a game at the historic Croke Park, the largest sporting arena in Ireland and the headquarters of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA).

This is not the Steelers’ first trip to Ireland. Pittsburgh played the Chicago Bears at Croke Park for a 1997 preseason matchup.

It’s a homecoming for the Rooney family. Dan M. Rooney, who ed away in 2017, served as U.S. ambassador to Ireland from 2009-2012 and co-founded the Ireland Funds charity.

“We are very excited to be the designated team in the first regular-season game to be played in Ireland this season,” said Steelers president Art Rooney II in a press release. “The opportunity for the Pittsburgh Steelers to play in Ireland is truly special, not only because of the Rooney family history there, but also to play in front of the growing number of Steelers fans in Ireland. We are thrilled to be part of this historic event to represent Pittsburgh in a game that brings the NFL to the great sports fans in Ireland.”

“We are absolutely delighted to welcome the NFL and the Pittsburgh Steelers to Croke Park,” said GAA president Jarlath Burns. “This event will not only highlight our stadium’s world-class facilities but also reinforce the connections and love of sport shared between our communities. Croke Park is a proud symbol of Ireland’s rich sporting heritage, and hosting one of the world’s best sporting organizations is a momentous occasion for the entire country. It will be a special and unique event, celebrating the ion uniting two great sporting codes in the heart of Dublin.”

The date, time, and Steelers’ opponent will be announced during the 2025 NFL schedule reveal later this spring.

NFL International Series Continues To Expand

Starting in 2025, the NFL can schedule up to eight regular-season games internationally per season.

The NFL returns to London in 2025 for three games. The New York Jets and Cleveland Browns will each host games at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, while the Jacksonville Jaguars return to Wembley Stadium for a home game.

The Miami Dolphins will help expand the NFL’s reach in Spain by hosting a game in Madrid.

Earlier this week, the NFL announced that the Los Angeles Rams will play a regular-season game in Australia in 2026.
