Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski has an important decision to make at quarterback.
Sanders, Dillon Gabriel, Kenny Pickett, and Joe Flacco are the four candidates competing for the Browns’ starting quarterback position. Deshaun Watson is currently rehabbing an Achilles injury that might cause him to miss the entire 2025 season.
While all four are jockeying for position on the depth chart, Sanders expressed that all four candidates are “cool” with each other.
“Outside the room, people try to pit us against each other, but inside the room, we know we’re one,” Sanders told Kay Adams on Up & Adams.
Sanders’ fall during the 2025 NFL Draft was one of the biggest storylines. Most mocks had Sanders as the No. 2 quarterback behind Miami’s Cam Ward.
However, Sanders fell to the Cleveland Browns in the fifth round. Gabriel, Sanders’ teammate, was selected in the third round.
Despite the competition, Sanders appreciates the camaraderie between the quarterbacks.
“We’re all different characters. It’s funny going there and seeing Joe every day. It’s fun to see him because I’m like, ‘Wow, I’m really with Joe Flacco right now, we’re on the same team,'” Sanders said. “Then, of course, with Kenny, the experience he has being in the league for these years is cool just to see the process of it. And Deshaun, of course, he’s active in there, he’s in all the meetings, so it’s cool talking to him.”

One of these four quarterbacks will be under center when the Browns take on the Bengals in Week 1.
The two rookies, Sanders and Gabriel, are likely fighting for one of the backup quarterback positions.
Pickett probably enters the training camp as the likely starter. The Browns traded for Pickett from the Eagles this offseason.
Flacco is the 40-year-old veteran who can still sling it. Two seasons ago, Flacco led the Browns to the postseason and won the Comeback Player of the Year.
