The Kellen Moore has agreed to become the 19th head coach in Saints’ history.

Saints Hire Kellen Moore As Next Head Coach

The last NFL team without a head coach finally has their guy.

Moore is now the Saints’ head coach less than 48 hours after the Eagles won Super Bowl LIX.

At the end of January, NFL Network reported that the Saints planned to wait until the postseason ended to speak with Moore. This signaled that Moore was in the driver’s seat to become the head coach.

On an episode of The Pat McAfee Show last week, ESPN’s Adam Schefter said Moore would be the Saints’ next head coach “barring a setback.”

On Tuesday, the Saints made it official.

“I am excited to the New Orleans Saints and deeply appreciate the faith that Mrs. Benson and the entire Saints organization have placed in me,” Moore said in a statement. “I look forward to embracing the challenges ahead and am eager to get started. I would also like to thank the Philadelphia Eagles for an incredible 2024 season. I’m excited to begin this new chapter.”

After a six-year playing career, Moore became the quarterbacks coach for the Dallas Cowboys in 2019. Moore then became the offensive coordinator in Dallas from 2019 to 2022, transforming the Cowboys into a top-five offense.

After spending one season with the Los Angeles Chargers (2023), the Philadelphia Eagles hired Moore as their offensive coordinator for the 2024 season.

With Moore calling the plays, the Eagles offense ranked seventh in points per game (27.2). Moore had a significant impact on the running game.

With Saquon Barkley as the top back, the Eagles rushed for a franchise-record 3,048 yards and an average of 179.3 per game (second in the NFL). Barkley became the ninth NFL player to rush for over 2,000 yards.

Moore also helped quarterback Jalen Hurts develop into an efficient er, with a 103.7 er rating (fifth in the NFL).

Moore saved his best game for last, as the Eagles outgained the Chiefs 345 yards to 275 yards in a 40-22 Super Bowl victory.

Who Is Kellen Moore Replacing?

Moore replaces interim head coach Darren Rizzi, who is expected to become the special teams coordinator of the Denver Broncos.

Rizzi became the head coach after the Saints fired Dennis Allen in the middle of his third season. Allen went 18-25 as the Saints’ head coach, including a 2-7 record in 2024.

Before Allen, Sean Payton guided the Saints for 15 seasons, leading New Orleans to their only Super Bowl victory in 2010.
