RedZone Host Scott Hanson Reveals How He Got ‘The Greatest Job In Sports’

Scott Hanson, the man behind the iconic NFL RedZone, has a job that most sports fans would envy.

As the show’s host, he navigates the chaotic landscape of Sunday afternoon football, providing viewers with a non-stop thrill ride of touchdowns, field goals, and last-minute heroics.

However, behind the scenes, the job is far more demanding than it appears.

A recent viral clip showcased the sheer madness of a typical RedZone Sunday, with Hanson juggling three games simultaneously: the Patriots vs. Jets, Colts vs. Texans, and Cardinals vs. Dolphins.

The clip, which garnered millions of views, highlighted the breakneck pace at which Hanson operates, constantly switching between games and delivering insightful commentary.

Hanson himself has acknowledged the intensity of his job, often referring to it as the “greatest job in sports.” But even the most ionate sports fan might balk at the grueling audition process he endured.

To land the RedZone gig, Hanson had to sit through a five-hour marathon of eight random games, broadcasting each one as if it were live.

“An audition for television is typically 10-15 minutes long,” Hanson recalled in an interview with Julian Edelman. “But because of seven hours of commercial-free football, the audition for NFL RedZone was five hours long.”

He continued, “They said, ‘Talk. Broadcast it.’ I had a suit on. I sweated right through the suit. At the end, I thinking that I either got the job or I just embarrassed myself.”

Fortunately, Hanson’s performance impressed the NFL Network executives, and he was offered the coveted role. The rest, as they say, is history.
