Rapper Drake Loses $1.25 Million In Maple Leafs’ Game 7 Loss

It has been a while since Toronto-based rapper Drake made headlines with one of his big-money sports wagers. He was back in the news with a bet on Sunday, though, and wound up losing $1 million thanks to the tough loss by the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Drake Loses Big Betting On Hometown NHL Team
On Sunday morning, Drake posted a poll on his Instagram story. It asked fans to vote on whether he should bet on his hometown Maple Leafs in their Game 7 matchup with the Florida Panthers.
67% of responders chose the “fire it up” option, and he did as the voting suggested.

An hour later, Drake posted proof of his bet. It was a wager of one million dollars, placed on the Leafs’ money line, which was paying out at odds of 2.13x (according to Stake). That meant that if Toronto was able to pull off the underdog victory, the 38-year-old rapper would have pocketed $2,130,000.
The game didn’t exactly turn out the way that Drake or the Maple Leafs had hoped. After a hard fought first period, the Panthers exploded in the second, scoring three goals in just over six minutes of action. They never looked back, adding three more goals to the Maple Leafs’ one. Toronto was eliminated from Stanley Cup contention in the 6-1 rout.
That wasn’t the only bet that Drake placed on Sunday. On a smaller ticket, he bet that Toronto would win by an exact margin of two goals, and placed $250,000 on 8x odds. If that result had come to fruition, he would have pocketed an extra $2 million.
Drake has been known to place big-money bets. He has turned heads before with his bets on contests like the Super Bowl and high-profile boxing and MMA matchups, and of course has a tendency to bet on his hometown team in big games.
